If youre looking for a great breakfast and wonderful service make sure to avoid this place. To start off we checked in at the host stand as instructed on Yelp and the hostess let us know we were set. Ten or so minutes pass and were still waiting no biggie, and another member of staff asks if we checked in. To which we let them know that we had checked in, she informed us that we hadn't been properly checked in but they'll get us seated. Small mishap but we hadn't waited for long so we didn't mind.
Once we got seated is when problems arose. We had waited around 10 or so minutes to get our drink order in and at this point we were wondering if we were sat in a section with no server. A majority of us in this party work or have worked in food service so we understand mishaps happen. However a busser, who's name I wish we got, came by and offered to take our drink orders. He put the orders in and brought them back in a timely manner on top of doing his own job and let us know that he called our waitress so she could help us. Nearly 10 more minutes passed and we had finally been visted by our server. Once again I did not get her name but she was a blonde latina woman with eyeliner. We put our order in and tried to order an item we'd been able to order in other locations, to which she informed us she wouldn't be able to do. Then when we added onto our order such as onions, we were not informed that this would be an added price. Our orders were put in and we waited and waited and waited...and by this point we were quite famished but nonetheless our food arrived not by who I assume was manager... Upon looking at everyone's plate, almost everyone had something wrong with their orders. Sweet potatoe fries were burnt and dry. The Wild West Burger looked past burnt like it had been damned to hell, then pulled from the fiery abyss back onto this plate. The funny thing is I had asked for it Medium Well and to add on, it was missing the previously mentioned upcharged onions that at this point we didn't know was an upcharge.
Another plate had come out dirty with some sorta chocolate and avocado-like stain on it when none of us ordered anything with said stain, the actual portion too was a smaller version then I was used to having at other locations. Our mimosas had lipstick stains to which none of us who were drinking had any on. This hadn't been noticed until after we had sipped said drink and the stain had been apparent through the transparent glass. The Sopes Benedict felt like the meat was less flavorful and just poorly cooked. It just felt less than appetizing.
The chilaquiles came as much meat as you'd see on Timothee Chalamet, and even then I'd debate that he probably has more. Along with that the flavor felt odd as well. We have ordered this dish and others before so to have almost all of them fall flat was borderline astounding... Most of us wanted to send it back or have sides redone but over 10 minutes had passed and most of us bit the bullet and just decided to unhappily eat the food we had been given because the server hadnt check in with us. I assume the busser previously mentioned saw us and then checked in on us once again and brought the missing onions. After those 10 minutes, our server finally checked on us to see how our food was and we sent back and removed only one of the bad dishes due to how long it took for her to check on us. On average I noticed our server checked on other tables multiple time but only started to check on us once the bill arrived.
The quality control is not up to par. We all had something we had wanted to say to our server about our food but it looks like she was checking on every table except ours so we were unable to do so. I do wish management would double check the items coming out to check for things like dirty cups and plates before it arrives. I'm not one to complain or leave negative reviews but this experience was bad from...

BIRTHDAY MONTH=BIRTHDAY COUPONS=HAPPY RODNEY
$10 birthday month food credit for E-Club members
Broken Yolk Cafe is a brunch spot I've been looking forward to trying. Having the $10 to use on anything on the menu, I had the perfect impetus to see what Broken Yolk is all about.
Acai bowl- Acai sorbet topped w/ strawberries, blueberries, bananas, granola, shredded coconut & a drizzle of honey. A classic acai bowl, w/o the fancy stuff (such as cacao nibs or goji berries), the bowl had three scoops of acai sorbet. The sorbet was soft enough to cut with a plastic spoon, yet remained firm to where it didn't melt right away, even outside on a day in the high 90's. The fresh fruit, shredded coconut & drizzle of honey completed a great tasting breakfast for myself.
Service was good. I showed my email at the counter, and I didn't wait long for my acai bowl to be ready. The interior of Broken Yolk Cafe is expansive, with seating both inside & al fresco. The shared parking lot with The Cauldron & Happily Ever Etched can be an issue. However, The Cauldron's business hours are in the evening, whereas Broken Yolk Cafe's is from morning to 2pm. Additional parking can be found at the Buena Park Downtown Mall.
Broken Yolk Cafe impressed me, both with their food & restaurant. I immensely enjoyed my acai bowl. All the more so with the $10 birthday month credit. I'm looking forward to coming back & ordering something more substantial, hoping I avoid the bustling brunch...
