A Knott's Classic!

While not as steep a drop as the newer Splash Mountain at Disneyland, Timber Mountain Log Ride is still a thrilling water ride & a fun way to cool off on a hot day. Or, a rainy December night, like my last time on the ride.

Beware - Your shoes will get drenched! There's openings on the sides of the logs, allowing water to splash in. I thought I'd be slick by making sure to raise my feet up, like I do Calico River Rapids. But, alas, it's squishy feet for me for the rest of my Knott's visit. I'm wearing my waterproof Columbia trail shoes, next time I plan on riding the Log Ride.

About equal time is spent outside, as well as interior. The Log Ride is a good long ride, with animatronic loggers & critters. Halloween & Christmas brings with them new theming, by way of decor, music & other accoutrements. There's even a crash landed UFO, too! Here's the pro & con. The con is, because the logs travels the flumes so fast, it's hard to check out everything. The pro is, it makes riders want to ride the Log Ride, again!

I never tire of riding the Log Ride. The logs are whisked through the flumes at a brisk pace, and there are great views of the park at various parts of the ride. The climactic drop makes my heart race, everytime, and the splashing can be substantial, now & again. The Timber Mountain Log Ride is an affirmative "must ride" & part of the rich heritage of Walter & Cordelia Knott's vision for the park. Starting with John Wayne as a passenger on the first log, to young kids with iPhones present day, the Timber Mountain Log Ride is solidly ensconced as the OG Knott's ride. The Log Ride is one of the oldest log flume rides in the United States. It's definitely a Knott's Berry Farm classic! The ride has a 19th century lumber camp theme and takes riders through different scenes with animatronic figures - honestly though, the ride goes too fast and it's hard to really see much of anything though! There used to also be areas on the ride that smelled like pinecones but I didn't smell anything the last time I rode it 😔

People often compare the Log Ride to Disneyland's Splash Mountain but to me, the Log Ride feels faster and 'less controlled' than SM as your log randomly bounces into the sides of the flume often. The Log Ride also doesn't have much of a storyline.

Wait time is almost always 60-120 minutes and the line moves slow. Ride has a moderate speed with a few dips, culminating in a steep drop. Pretty long ride of about 4 minutes. I've never gotten drenched but you will definitely get splashed.

Definitely consider having a fast lane pass...

Best log ride around! Opened in 1969 and remodeled in 2013. Added new audio-animatronic figures. Some of them have slightly scary faces!

The ride ends with a 42 foot drop at the end and you may get wet! They take your photo on the drop. Spoiler alert-there is also a shorter drop inside the ride, in the dark.

It has great theming. Loggers and forests and animals.

You sit on one of two long benches. You can fit up to 3 people per seat if they are smaller. 2 adults. Works great with kids as you can wrap your arms around them.

The line can get very long during summer and holidays so ride it early in the day to save time. There are two lines for loading so it goes quickly.

If you ride in October be aware that this ride is converter for Knott’s Scary Farm and they cover up the scary elements. October is a great time to go though as the park closes early and is never busy...
