A Surprise Find on Burlingame Ave: Caffe Stellato Picture this: I'm cruising down Burlingtown Ave, minding my own business, when suddenly – BAM! – major frozen dessert craving hits. That's when I stumbled upon Caffe Stellato, and boy, am I glad I did. This place is like a little slice of Italy hiding in plain sight! First things first – the gelato. (Because let's be real, why eat ice cream when you can have gelato?) They've got three whole cases of the stuff! I must've stood there for a good five minutes, just gawking at all the flavors. Eventually, I went for a combo that would make my dentist weep: Very Rocky Road and Triple Fudge Chocolate. And because I live by my friend Bennett's wise words, "No regrets, eat more ice cream," I got it in a cup WITH a cone on top. Thanks for the encouragement, Bennett – you're the real MVP here! But here's the kicker – while I'm there, happily stuffing my face with this heavenly gelato, I realize there's way more to this place than just frozen treats. The smell of coffee was driving me nuts, and don't even get me started on the pastries. They've got sandwiches, salads, crepes – the works! Oh, and candies too. Because apparently, they're trying to turn us all into kids in a candy store. I'm not gonna lie, I'm already plotting my next visit. Maybe I'll be all grown-up and get a salad... and then completely undo that healthy choice with a massive crepe. And the visit after that? I'm thinking coffee and pastry date with myself, because why not? And you bet there'll be gelato involved every single time – sorry not sorry, ice cream! Bottom line: Caffe Stellato isn't just a gelato shop – it's like a treasure chest of yumminess right in the middle of Burlingame. Fair warning though, it might just become your new obsession. Don't say I didn't warn you! And remember, in the immortal words of Bennett: "No regrets, eat more ice cream" – or in this...
Read moreGelato is top notch. Perhaps melting a little more than it should be on a cool day but the flavors are fantastic.
Rando thoughts: aesthetically I would love to see more effort put into fun and interesting top decorations and swirls like they do in europe instead of just mashing with the scoop marks. But whatever. Also the whole wall full of candy is a bit odd to me. Would love to see more authentic italian products since there's no specialty shops in the area but I'm sure candy sells well. I see they have sandwiches which look amazing but I don't usually spend more than $12 for a 6" sandwich so I probably wont partake. Finally, looks like they have crepes coming soon. It seems like crepevine has that pretty well covered and this place doesn't have many seats for sitting down and eating amessy crepe. Honestly I'd like to see the candy go and add a few booths and we would probably come here to sit...
Read moreWe initially stopped in here for dessert after dinner elsewhere. I asked for a taster of the espresso gelato and it had a wonderful depth of flavour. The texture was indistinguishable from ice cream for me. I bought a scoop of it. The wife got a pistachio cannoli, which she also really enjoyed. I made a note to return at a later date and try their sandwiches and when we finally did, they loved up to expectation - the sandwiches are REALLY good. They are either making bread in-house or buying local and fresh. Ingredients were all very high quality. They also make salads and crepes, they make really good gelato milkshakes, and they sell a variety of imported snacks. The staff are super chill here. I'll be bringing my parents here, highly, highly...
