A solid Very Good
As the pandemic morphs into endemic, we return to restaurants and begin our travels again. Seasons 52 is an established chain. This particular location has been around for 10 years or so. Its located in the rather bland Wayside Commons, its not the big boy mall like Burlington Mall, but its definitely a cut above a strip mall. We visited 52 during the week between Christmas and New Years. Our reservation was at the peak time of 7 pm and out party of 5 was seated within 10 minutes of the reservation. We were seated in a side room, much quieter than the main area, but lacking the upholstered booth setting we had requested. Less than comfortable seating with excellent covid sensitive table separation, in a nice quiet side room. Overall the "feeling of place" is welcoming with heavy accent on wood and wood tones. Our server appeared promptly and gave us plenty of time to decide and clearly explained the winter themed offerings. 52 changes the menu with the seasons, a nice touch. Throughout the meal there were subtle sustainability efforts. No automatic water, no excessive plate changes, no cutlery unless necessary, and small French restaurant style portions. Surprisingly though, there was little to no emphasis on local sourcing. Obvious from the menu, but why not offer a daily local sourced menu item? Our server and her trainee were attentive and responsive to all questions. Very friendly and accommodating to allergies and other requests. Not as prompt as we would wanted but they added to the atmosphere of 52. The appetizers of flatbread pesto and meatballs were very good but not knock your socks off great. The same can be true of most of the 5 entrées: steak, chicken, salmon, trout, and halibut. The presentation on the plate is excellent and there were no real drops except one. The halibut with pilaf was served lukewarm. We couldn't tell if this is an intentional presentation decision, but we are more used to the Legal Sea Foods approach of straight from the grill to the table fresh. Normally we would have sent this dish back for reheating but the subtle taste of the fish and the excellent rice pilaf kept the entre in the very good category. The steak was very nice and the presentation simple. The trout was very nice and the portion generous. The salmon was very good but not great, as was the chicken. The desert presentation was clever, and the portions appropriate. All five were very good but again, not "knock your socks off great." The coffee was surprisingly forgettable. We don't comment on value at a first or second visit, as we are reimbursed for domestic restaurant reviews. However we agree with reviews that indicate 52 might be a bit over priced for "solid very good but not great". A couple of noteworthy pluses. Parking was adequate even at peak times. There is no obligatory valet parking though it may be available. The reservation and confirmation process online was straightforward and the updates timely and useful. The reception staff are competent, but you don't feel especially special (sign of the times perhaps). We had mentioned that this was a birthday outing and at the time of reservation they indicated that it was noted but it didn't come up during the meal experience. The request for a booth (for a sore back) went unfulfilled. The server made us feel special, the restaurant, not so much. Especially with chains, the experience at 52 is a very good but not great feeling. We will return for the spring and summer menus, but we will calibrate our expectations to the very good but not...
Read moreFLATBREADS fantastic blends of flavors. Quality of food is above average. Potato and Leek soup smooth, silky texture and taste buds reaction perfect. Meats were cooked perfectly. My scallop side was cooked just righr. Deserts just the right size for a taste, not sugar overload. only complaint was location of our table. My wife's chair was partly in a doorway with high traffic. I visit this restaurant frequently and will continue as they always serve excellent food and have excellent service.
I returned in November 2025. And continues to be amazed at their service and food quality. Food. Outstanding preparation and presentation. All the dishes, except one, have been perfect. I celebrated my birthday here a few days ago and was not disappointed. I come back because of the excellent standard they have. All their flatbreads have been very good, as I think I have tried most of them at this point the Charcuterie board is quite good, but, be aware the portion is enough for a table of 4 to just pick at. For the main meal, I had scallops over risotto., with broccolini. The scallops were perfect. My wife had the lamb. I tried the lamb and was cooked perfectly. The deserts are small and perfect size for a taste without gorging on sugar. but if you're looking for a kit of sweet endings, either order more than one or go elsewhere. The only dish I dont recommend is the gnocchi. I had this last year sometime, and it was the only dish done poorly. They baked it, and it dries out, and for an Italian, gnocchi should be moist, never dried out. However, every other dish I have had has been outstanding. Plenty of parking. ambiance is warm, and every room can be closed off for special events (small). The character varies from room to room but maintains a homey feel, as opposed to the industrial feel of a large restaurant. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the area, and I return periodically because I know the excellence they bring to...
Read moreSecond attempt at ordering & eating the Philly flatbread pizza GF. Definitely bad meat or something is going on there. My garden salad lettuce tasted mildew after taste, arugula was wilted and we asked for it on the side separately from other pizza which was pesto chicken. Months ago we went in as it’s a fav place of my kids and we like getting the flatbreads, salad and soup. We got very ill stomach wise first time getting the Philly. Reported it as a concern. Got emails numerous from the person that responds and forwards to manager. Never got a return from manager and he claimed I left a wrong number. Nah. Again, I reached out and crickets. Lousy. This time went there attempted again (bad idea) on 7/21/23 and now toilet city. TMI. Tonight I have a bucket next to me on the couch. Food quality has diminished there. Sad as it’s my kids best place. Ever since pandemic it’s gone down quality wise. We never had issues before. Mgr on recent visit took salad off bill after I returned it after eating half, saying tastes like bad mildew greens. She said chef said tastes like cardboard box. And she said it’s just “earthy.” Claimed new vendor? And it’s still ok lettuce. I’m sick. Like Jerry Seinfeld puke fear sick. Is it the dead tasting beef? Tasted off the beef. Like cover it with seasoning beef as it just was “off.” Salad or bad meat? I’m guessing meat since it’s second time. I should have returned the pizza and I had let hunger take over on my judgement. Paying price. Not a fan...
