This place used to be called Silver's. I guess remaining it to Bronze's would have just been too on the nose.
I last reviewed this location 8 years ago and my opinion has only gone toward the worse. The food quality was fine but, of course, inflation rears its ugly head. The selection, however, has changed for the worse. The shining star of my previous review, the crab cakes, are now gone, replaced by "seafood cakes". Lacking any description of what goes into the "seafood", I opted for the crab ravioli. They were... Okay. The drizzle of sweet sauce was not a good pairing with the pasta, of which there was a lot. Not so much with the filling, which was good. The sauce was done with the filling but there was just a whisper of the sauce to begin with. A simple bechamel with Parmesan ) you might call it "Alfredo sauce") would have been great with the ravioli. The wontons were practically the opposite. Served on a big plate with a doily in the middle, these just felt pretentious. The filling was about the same as a much cheaper rangoon but without the extra wonton, so that was appreciated. The doing sauce was, again, unnecessarily pretentious. Just make a simple sweet and sour. The shrimp and cream cheese filling was fine, but for the price, crab would have been better. The clan chowder is still really good, with lots of fresh clams. Perfectly peppered, though as with most, needed a bit more salt, which is fine. It definitely is part of what brings the food score back up. The calamari is the main reason the food score isn't a 3. It alone would be a 5/5. The calamari is nice and crispy, the honey mustard is creamy and balanced, it's just overall the best bet here. The bread is still great but only the first basket is complimentary now.
The service was borderline atrocious. The staff felt confused and flustered despite the dinner service having only just started, and the dining areas not near full. I can only imagine how much worse things got later on. Missed orders, repeated missed and misunderstood drink requests, too few menus on the table, curt bar staff, and no fewer than three separate people coming to the table. The last time I was here, we had one server who did it all beautifully. Of course we had 7 people in the party with three separate checks, so we got the 20% mandatory tip. This would be understandable in any other state, but this is California where servers are required to be paid at least minimum wage. Even a 20% tip for this service was ridiculous.
Overall, a significantly less enjoyable experience than I've ever had at this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe location is the only thing that this place still has going for it. Stepping foot into this establishment takes you back in time⦠clearly this place has not been updated since the 1980ās and lacks regular basic maintenance as I immediately noticed peeling paint on the ceiling near the entry. This would be a quick fix after hours⦠overall the view is the only thing that kept us waiting for a table. However, by the time they sat us we were seated in the middle of the dining room with a distant view of the harbor bridge. We had a long drive into town and were so excited for some fresh seafood for dinner. We were greeted by our waiter, who did not seem excited to be there; but explained the three menus at the table and than asked if we would like bread & butter for a $2.00 charge⦠(you would think that would be included if your spending 100 dollars plus for dinner). He took a drink order and then we asked to place an order for appetizers we ordered fresh oysters and calamari. We had planned on ordering a prawn cocktail but the waiter walked away before we were finished ordering. After he brought our drinks he said āDid you want to order anything elseā we were confused if he was asking to take our dinner order. We ordered the seafood sampler platters one with Caesar salad and one with fries.
The oysters were the only thing that was fresh the calamari on the other hand was clearly a store bought pre frozen item and served with a honey Dijon dressing from a bottle⦠this immediately made me wonder what our dinner would be like.
Dinner came out and it was a huge thumbs downā¦. None of the fish appeared fresh and all appeared previously prepared and frozen / store bought the breading was the same on all the items the prawns were like rubber and chewy and the filets were tasteless and dry the sea scallops were raw in the middle and the fried oyster neither of us had the stomach to try them⦠What really topped off this horrible meal was the waiter clearly observed there was a problem but never bothered to ask and instead came back with the check and a 20% discount so clearly he figured it out and this action lead me to believe this is not the first time someoneās not been happy and instead of hearing some one complain they just discounted the mealā¦. This place seems to be a favorite for quite a few but in our opinion needs a major overhaul. We wonāt be back and it was unfortunate that we paid over a 100 dollars and still ended up buying...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHubby's and my anniversary getaway. Arrived in Fort Bragg around 3 o'clock pm 11-3-19. Staff at our hotel recommended a walk down to the Harbor area. Saw Silver's restaurant from the street. I thought it looked a little iffy. I was wrong! We were reading the menu they have posted outside and as we were doing that a man in a pick up stopped and said "hey this place is really good. I highly recommend it"! We went in for a drink to check out the atmosphere. We sat out on the patio after being cordially welcomed by everyone who was working there. This went very well so we decided to have a full dinner. From the time we sat down in the dining room (with gorgeous harbor view!) Until the time we finished everything was perfect, complete with romantic sunset. Our outstanding server Javier understood when we asked for an extra plate we wanted to split the meal. We usually do as we cannot eat a full entree each and don't want leftovers. We ordered their signature salad (shown), and the New York strip dinner (sorry no pics of that), which was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. Javier took it upon himself to provide an extra steak knife (I mention this as no other server EVER has done so). He had the kitchen split the plate without us asking. Although we declined dessert, Javier offered it once more, and well we ended with a lovely creme brulee although we were already stuffed. Javier graciously provided everything we did not yet know we wanted. He let us in on a secret; that that is how they do things there. They try to anticipate your wants and give it to you without you asking. What a delightful and refreshing surprise!. I've been so used to grudging accommodation with plate splitting I've learned just to not ask and carry about the business of sharing it ourselves. The plates were beautiful. Everything was delicious from start to finish. And I LOVED that the service was timed so the entree was not brought too soon after the salads. It is so refreshing to find a place that actually provides fantastic service and understands how to do that. I want to highly recommend Silver's Restaurant to anyone who would like a lovely dining experience with a beautiful Harbor view. My visit was on a Monday evening. 5 stars and 2 thumbs up to Silver's at the Wharf! The people operating this establishment are...
