My husband and I decided to do a fort Bragg noyo harbor clam chowder taste test. This was so much fun. Here is our results. Coming in last place and really surprised me was the wharf. We paid for a cup instead of a bowl like the others but the price was the same. That was the first thing we didn't like. Now for the taste. (Came with oyster crackers) The clams were a bit sandy and it was way over salted and the only one out of the four that tasted a bit fishy. Coming in third was the princess seafood (came with oyster crackers). Good chowder but a bit on the sweeter side we're guessing because of the corn. Clams were clean. My mom would of really loved it but just wasn't our thing. Coming in second was sea pal cove (did not come with crackers) The clams are clean and huge and the flavor was great but was under salted. A pinch more of salt and it would of been right there with our first place choice. Number 1 was from noyo fish company (came with sourdough bread) the clams were clean and plentiful. The seasoning was perfect. Salted perfect. This was a clear winner. If you are in the mood for a nice hot cup of chowder this is the place to go and we would recommend trying other things on the menu there. This place does...
Read moreArrived at 7:30PM (closes at 8) on a cloudy, 59 degree Friday evening. The (outdoor) dining area was covered with open walled tents and warmed with 'lamp post' gas radiant heaters. Specials included Shrimp Quesadillas, Shrimp Ceviche, Clam Strips, and chips with house made Guacamole. The Shrimp Quesadilla was a single 10 inch tortilla folded in half with buttery seasoned shrimp chunks, fried potatoes, cooked onions, cheese, etc. Salsa and thick, lumpy guacamole were served on the side. The 'Pickle Chips' use chilled cucumber pickles (like Clausen) with a thin, sometimes transparent batter/breading. They were quite hot (temperature) but the pickles were firm and crisp. The breading flavor and tartness of the pickles were balanced. A side of thousand island like sauce was provided. The clam chowder was in a 6 inch diameter bread bowl and contained a large protein of clams cut into relatively large pieces in a savory, thick white base. This is a very dog...
Read moreMy brother from another mother was craving fish and chips so we came here. It was cold and wet from the rain, but they had a large covered area outside for dining with several toasty gas heaters to warm the diners. We both started with a cup of the classic creamy clam chowder that was full of clam and potato pieces served with a fresh slice of sourdough bread and the classic oyster crackers. My brother chose the fish and prawn with fries. It came with two decent size pieces of fish and three prawns. He said it was delicious and especially liked the batter. I went with a fish taco and a shrimp taco that were both delicious! They had shredded cabbage and picot de gallo with corn and an incredibly tasty sauce. They came with homemade tortilla chips that were on another level. We washed it all down with a pint each of the North Coast Scrimshaw Pilsner, my favorite! They had 7-8 of the better beers on tap. Try to stop by in the day time for great views of...
