HOW ABOUT A LITTLE LESS BURNY AND A LITTLE MORE YUM?

So a really long drive on a one-lane road finally ended and we reached Fort Bragg a short while later. Somewhat irritated and definitely hungry.

We ordered one half plate order of beef ribs ($10) with a side of mac and cheese, and a salad for me ($5). I asked if the dressing was homemade and ordered blue cheese after hearing it was. I love homemade blue cheese. Unless it comes in a container that's been sitting too long and it's all separated looking and watery on top. That's how this arrived. I used one of the containers I was given but it honestly didn't have much flavor so I put BBQ on the rest of my salad. Weird... I know. I don't even like BBQ sauce much.

The mac and cheese was good. I liked it but husband didn't. He is more of a Kraft mac kind of guy. He likes creamy cheese. I like homemade mac with the more grainy texture of real melted cheese. I thought this one was delicious.

The ribs were just okay. I attend the national rib cook off every year in Reno. For years I spend a day devouring the best rib cookers from around the country. So I know what passes as good ribs and the ones we were served probably wouldn't have gone very far in the competition. for one, they were just slightly too burned. The seasoning had lost its flavor and a burny taste replaced it. It looked like a good, heavy seasoning too. I imagine with salty goodness. But I'll never know. The BBQ sauce didn't do much so we ate the ribs as they were, our mouths filling with disappointment.

One of the ribs had a shockingly small amount of meat. I know that this is bound to happen. Not every rib can be hunky with meat, but... it just doesn't seem fair to serve these sometimes. The rest of the ribs were very meaty. They were a little grisly, but I expect that on beef ribs and it didn't bother me. Only the burny taste did.

I probably would have gone with three stars but I was really on the fence because of the quality. I decided two-star as I recalled that I asked for my reuseable water container to be filled. They cannot take it and fill it. The girl brought out a disposable cup of water for me. I poured this into my container, but the whole point of reuseable is to reduce waste. At least she could have brought it in a plastic pitcher/glass that could be washed. Restaurants that aren't somewhat conscious about how much waste they generate don't make my...

Food is pretty good actually. Ribs are great, baby back and pork ribs. What is absolutely terrible is the fact this business works very hard to overcharge customers. My wife and order a half rack of ribs and a side of onion rings. We first asked if there is a full rack of ribs the come with sides. The answer was no there is not. The truth is there is a full rack with two sides for $24-$25. There is also a half rack of ribs that come with one side. We were charged for a half rack and also charged separately for an additional side. We order two half racks because the answer over the phone was no we don't have a full rack that comes with sides or a half rack the comes with sides. The way I was rung up we received less food and paid more for it than we should have. I confronted the business about this practice and there was only excuses. ' I was busy' ' I meant this and said this over the phone.' I was even told in person that he has a witness that he did tell me correctly over the phone. What I am saying here is great tasting food, but pay attention to detail of the price you are actually paying and the price that is listed. Especially if you are ordering over the phone. You way see a price difference and an amount of food difference that only favors the business taking advantage of customers. The way this was handled rubed me the wrong way completely. I will never...

Ok, so we used to come here for years when visiting Fort Bragg. This time, it was empty (one couple), and we wondered if it was new owners. We ordered 3 bowls of clam chowder, and it took about 15 minutes for her to bring them out. (Usually chowder is served immediately) My wife and daughter tasted theirs and both cringed and said something was wrong. I tried mine, and sure enough, it tasted like spoiled cream or milk. It was disgusting. I told the girl who took our order and she did not say much. I told her she probably should not serve it to anyone else, and she said, "It was the last of the batch." Basically it seemed kind of like she already knew and served us anyway and is probably why it took so long. Definitely not going back and for 3 days while in town doesn't look like many others are going...

This was my wife and I first time in this little town, and being that we love BBQ, this place seems fitting to try. First off, we love the atmosphere of the moms and pop vibe with nice views of the Pacific Ocean. The service was excellent and we had no complaints there. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't something we had to have again. I ordered a brisket meal with mac n cheese and corn bread. In my opinion, brisket wasn't really bbq qualified. It was cooked good, just not season like real bbq. Corn bread was OK, and the mac n cheese was my favorite. My recommendation is that you don't come here if you're enticed by the BBQ because you might be disappointed. However, if you just want good food, I say give it a try.

Quintessential hole in the wall bbq joint. The menu is the standard affairs of pulled port, ribs, and chicken along with a good selection of sides. The pulled port was flavorful and not overly dry. The slaw was also seasoned and paired well with the pulled pork. The sides are sometimes the let down for bbq joints but not here. The Mac and Cheese was good along with their baked beans. Only mark against the sides was frozen onion rings that are run of the mill. The staff was friendly and accommodating to make sure the order was right.

The Q was awesome! We showed up on a Wednesday evening for dinner, and the Q was quiet. The menu had endless delicious items that we wanted to try and a good beer selection. We had the blackened cod taco, macaroni and cheese, oysters, and fish and chips southern style. The staff were accommodating to all my menu questions and helped us out when we had questions about what to do in the area as tourists :)
