My husband and I came here to celebrate our anniversary for the weekend. We were shocked and extremely dissatisfied to walk in and see how dated our room was. We traveled over 3 hours to get there and wanted to take a short nap before we went to dinner but the bed was so hard it did nothing but hurt our backs the entire weekend!! All of those rooms should have very high quality luxury materess and linens for what your charging. And the Jacuzzi tub was great along with the fire place which made it feel more romantic. I was really expecting a luxurious room for the price we paid. I thought we were going to walk into something 200 times better than what we got. And I hoped they would do something special for us since it was our anniversary like have a bottle of wine or Champaign for the customers who are there for special occasions, and we stayed 3 nights. The constant horns blowing all day and all night are annoying and it takes away from listening to the sounds of the ocean. In my opinion, the North Cliff Hotel as it is, is extremely overpriced and needs to step it up a great deal with major renovations to make it worth the hundereds of dollars being charged to stay there. Make them more luxurious and romantic. The beds need to be replaced entirely as well as the decor and furniture. The complementary breakfast wasn't special either. I expected a 5 star breakfast with everything you could imagine and that was far from what we got. The room where breakfast is set up is small and crowded. Its a buffet type just like cheap hotels and has the same food and drink choices. This hotel is very expensive and i don't understand why. There is literally nothing special about it. You can go down the block to the other hotels and get similar if not the same views and pay way less money. I have stayed at a lot of different hotels in fort bragg over the years and have been extremely pleased with my stay because the accommodations were equal to the price. Im sad to say in this case it was not. I hope North Cliff imporves and gives their customers what they...

First off, there is a fog horn on the beach that goes off every 30 seconds. I can't believe not a single review we read mentions this. We found the sound very intrusive. It was okay during the day, but at night we sadly had to close the patio door (would have loved to have the sound of the ocean, but alas). We were only able to sleep by shutting the door, turning on the provided box fan to max, and putting in ear plugs (bring your own because they do provide some but they are cheap).

With that said, in all other respects, this hotel really delivered what we wanted for a romantic, cool, ocean getaway. The tub was great (our jets worked without any problems), we loved the view (sunset from the balcony for the win!), the bed was decent, grab n go breakfast was well stocked and varied, and the staff was nice. As others have mentioned, there is no elevator, so getting stuff to the rooms was a hassle because of the stairs (which are laid out very strangely - you have to do this weird up/down zig-zag thing to get anywhere). Also, there is no A/C. We lucked out weather wise and it was plenty cool enough for us, but I guess this could be a problem if it gets real hot out.

As far as Fort Bragg goes, the town was nice enough. Restaurants were nothing very special. Expect a lot of fish n chips. Glass beach is a bit of a misnomer - there's really no glass there anymore, so lower your expectations - but the views of the ocean were stunning. Little shops were fun. There's a really neat little stringed instrument shop tucked away in the back of the big building where the glass beach museum is, and a big retro video game store with tons of games for really...

To be honest, I'm not quite sure what all the gripes are about since after a long drive (we drove up from Marin County), you just want a clean and comfortable room, which is exactly what we got. Throw in a fireplace, a tub overlooking the ocean (we were very aware of the water shortage so I doubt that anyone ever uses it these days...we certainly didn't), and a quick check-in and we were quite happy (we had made reservations but it seemed that there was availability, at least in the shoulder season). The small negatives are no breakfast (you get a to-go bag) due to Covid but big deal; it's just what places are doing these days. And yes, you may have a short hike to your room because there are no elevators (so ask for a ground floor room, if that is a concern). But then you get to your room (ours ran about $200 which included taxes and fees) and you gaze out at the view...unbeatable. Throw in a bunch of friendly fellow room occupants below (we didn't know any of them but they appeared equally pleased with where they were as you can see in the photo) and it was the perfect way to unwind. And the bed was super comfortable (my wife wanted to order one if that tells you how comfortable it was). All in all, we felt that it was a bargain to arrive as such a destination, even it was a bit above our usual budget. But things are filling up as people like us try to just get away for some relaxation time...if that is you then this place is a great start, even if they're (like most places) running on short staffing (but doing...

Stayed at the North Cliff Hotel in early August (Friday–Saturday) and paid about $650 for two nights. Overall it was borderline adequate for a short stay. The wifi only worked for a few hours during my stay, which normally wouldn’t be a big deal, but I had an unexpected car issue and had to sit in the lobby to handle it because cell reception in the area is poor. So do not expect to have connectivity of staying here. The biggest drawback is the location overlooking the port entrance. The fog horn — which I didn’t see mentioned much when I booked — goes off every 30 seconds, 24/7/365. It’s not a classic nice nautical low foghorn sound either; it’s a digital tone like a modern school bell, and while it’s tolerable with the balcony door closed, it’s definitely noticeable and makes it hard to enjoy the otherwise nice view. No AC (also not clearly advertised), though the room wasn’t hot enough to be a problem. I ended up using the provided fan both to keep cool and to help mask the fog horn. Fixtures and furniture could use some updating — nothing terrible, but a bit worn. On the plus side, the staff were nice and genuinely tried their best to be accommodating and helpful. Overall, a mediocre stay. The value is definitely not there, and it’s not somewhere I’d be in a rush to book again, especially for the price.
