I was out in Calimesa since my son was taking his SAT at Yucaipa High School, and noticed there was a German deli. I had read about it online, but being there in person was much more impressive. There are not a lot of German markets around anymore, even where I live. I got to meet the owner and he is 86 years old from East Germany. Great guy!!! Very pleasant to talk to and since my grandfather was German was kind of fun to make that connection. The deli has a great selection of meats, sausages, pastries and cheeses--not to mention real German beer. I found a little tiny keg of Hofbräu and purchased that. The young women at the counter were very polite in fact one struck up a conversation asking about my son and they both happened to be in martial arts which was kind of fun and interesting making it seem like the world is a lot smaller than we think. You don't have to be German or European to shop here. If you'd like a good selection of authentic meat, sausages, cheeses and pastries, then go here and don't forget to say Tschuss!

Enjoyed a late afternoon lunch with my brother. Offers a quaint Germanic deli atmosphere that connects with 1950s and 1960s retro. There are a few tables inside, but the real treat is the updated patio. We enjoyed cool breezes and ample seating with our wursts. Pros: Cozy and quaint German centric foods and baked goods. A refreshing fresh brewed non sweetened tropical tea. Good quality polish and hungarian spicy sausages. Warm and savory German potato salad, mild sauerkraut, fresh pickles and a good variety of cheeses. The serving portions are meant for a healthy gut with large amounts of fermented vegetables, meats, and cheeses. The rye bread complimented the juicy sausages. Cons: Service was friendly but lacked clarity about their dishes, slow as in same register to handle all transactions. I waited so long to pay that our food came out before we could sit down. That was a bit awkward.

Update: Still the best place to get lunch in Calimesa. They raised the prices on everything but that was expected. But I did get to meet George. He’s just as legendary as I expected. Super friendly, somewhat reserved, but he really embodies the old world vibes of the market. Definitely getting a pic with him next time I’m in town. 3 words: German hot plate. Under $10 and everything you could want. They have sandwiches, hot foot, cold cuts, sausage to go, butcher cuts, dry foods, sauerkraut, mustard, sweets, treats, and German Bier. They’ve been here for 53 years and I finally found this place. Shame…

I wish I could give this place ten stars! George's is German market and deli that has been going strong in Calimesa for the better part of fifty years. The grocery and deli are exotic and interesting- I always find something new to take home, from sausages and mustards that I've never heard of, to deliciously intoxicating Bavarian bier that can't be found at BevMo. Plenty of amazing chocolates and desserts to die for as well! The groceries can be kind of pricey (for good reason), but the lunch specials are a steal, ranging from world class sandwiches to "hot plates," which features a sausage of your choice and epic side dishes. Always, ALWAYS get the hot potato salad! Here's the best part about George's: it has that magical quality of transporting you to some other place. When you walk through that sliding glass door, you're transported from Southern California to Deutschland for an hour long vacation! I absolutely cherish this place, and I love bringing family and friends for their first visit. Worth a trip on...

5 star service from the girls up front. They were happy and polite. It was obvious they enjoyed being there. 5 star quality food. I came to buy some bulk bockwurst to take home because it's a bit of a long drive to get there for me. I also had a bologna and dill havarti sandwich on a pretzel while I was there, which was so excellent, I jumped back in line to buy the makings to take some home. 5 star selection of German beer. It is sometimes hard to find Hofbrau or Weihanstephaner, or some other of my favorites. George's has them all. Along with great meats and breads. I could have spent 500 dollars there if I had the money to burn. 5 star atmosphere. I enjoy the small-town kind of old school feel. It's modest, and humble, but also we'll kept and clean. The staff was excellent today 3/27/25. They answered the questions I had, and seemed very thankful for my business, even though the place was somewhat busy. I can't wait to go back again and have a hot-plate and a beer on the patio in...
