UPDATE: Adding a star for customer service. They contacted me after my review and offered a full refund, which they fulfilled!
I really wanted to love this place and am bummed to write this review. We chose Blue Line after reading some reviews and the photos and description of the pizza while we were visiting the area. It was a long day of traveling and we were tired and hungry when we arrived at 8:30 that evening. We were seated and informed it would be a 30-40 minute wait for the pizza. Eh. Okay. Good pizza is worth that wait! My boys were thirsty and we requested waters and a pitcher they could leave at the table (my teenagers down water like no other). The pitcher eventually arrived and my son went to pour a glass and stopped - showing me all the stuff floating in the pitcher. Gross! We flagged our waiter down, showed him there were particles floating around in the water, and requested a new pitcher of clean water. A few minutes later a new pitcher was brought to us. My son again went to pour a glass and the look on his face was just disgust. This time, there were even larger particles floating around in the pitcher - one was large and green. GROSS! We again flagged the waiter down and asked him to take the pitcher. By this time, it had been around 15 minutes and the boys were extremely thirsty so I reluctantly ordered them sodas. The manager(?) came over and apologized, saying they were looking into what was floating around in their water, and stated that our drink orders would be free due to this. Okay - that's great.
Our pizza eventually came out. We were famished and ready to dive in - but they messed up and made the wrong pizza on one of them so two of us had to wait to eat. They let us know they were making a small order of the correct one and would have it out in about ten minutes.
Eventually we all got to eat. The pizza was good. Not amazing, nor the best we'd ever had, but good. Tasty with good flavor and the crust really was great. That crust belongs on all pizza!
We finished up and requested our leftovers boxed up and our bill. The bill arrived with one of the drinks charged to the bill. I again flagged down the waiter and reminded him that the manager told us their drinks would be comped for the meal. He said "Oh, ya! Don't worry about that!" and took my card to run the check. I thought that meant that soda charge was being removed from the bill, but when he brought back my copy to sign, it was still there and nothing had been fixed :-/ This was disappointing at best. Yes, they were busy, and yes, he was running around quickly trying to do everything and was attentive, but why tell me not to worry about if you aren't going to take care of it? I left no tip, considering the extra charge for the drinks the tip.
I remove one star for the pizza being made wrong, two stars for the two pitchers with nasty food(??) particles floating around in them, one star for being charged for drinks that were promised free, and give one star back for tasty pizza.
Honestly, they really should have comped our meal after all the hassle. The pizza was good, but not good enough to try them again. :( Make sure to double check your waters here...
Read moreA solid option in hoity-toity Campbell. I kid. I grew up in this town. Things change. Campbell has changed. But this place deserves its ratings, even if I still enjoy some of the standards in the area that have managed to remain in spite of the general, well, gentrification (and I was a regular at The Garret when it was in The Pruneyard . . . and just a short hop away from Boswell’s for some uncomfortably close drinking after a meal!).
Last thing first, note how most of the negative reviews are either odd, old, or fair but overly harsh for the infraction mentioned. Keep that in mind. Nice to see that the negative reviews are largely in the dustbin. Most of them don’t really speak to this place, then or when they were written. Most, as is often the case, speak to the person writing them (and I assume that they think that things that can’t speak do).
Never had a bad meal here or via take-out. Sure, this isn’t classic Chicago-style deep dish. But they don’t promise you Lou Malnati’s (and I will fake-fight anyone—including you, snarky Aston Martin—who says that place doesn’t rock). The ½ meatball (which seemed to disappear for a bit and then return) and ½ spinach is a great option. The Caesar salad is really good, even if they seem to be skimping a touch these days. The appetizers I have had are standard fare, delivered in a standard way. I keep going back, though perhaps less frequently due to the rising costs (not their fault).
I’d say that the design is industrial/efficient inside, comfortable and a bit small on the outside. Having the two entrances seems to confuse some people. But you get the hang of it. Servers are, uniformly, not uniform. Some seem to really care. Others seem stoned. Some seem a touch out of touch (perhaps they are stoned too?). Others seem to take their job, and how you should view that job, way tooooooo seriously. You are not managing my financials. Don’t act like it. We are all on this marble together. Parking? It’s Campbell. Figure it out.
One bit of advice (and this is a riff on an old Family Guy episode): if a person orders take-out and has a hot option (say, pizza) and a room temperature option (say, salad), don’t stack the latter on top of the former. I have never understood this practice in a pizza joint. I mean, I understand stacking. But not this.
I remember what this place/property used to be back in the 80s. And I am glad it is this place now....
Read moreThere are 2 types of people in this world #teamdeepdish and all others who do eat deep dish. Just kidding, I for one can vouch for both and I do enjoy a slice of #teamthincrust but if it came down to it I'll bleed for a slice of deep dish! Luckily here at BL you don't have to make the difficult decision between deep dish or thin crust because they serve both!
We all know that Chicago is the home of the most wonderfully constructed slices of thickness but here in Northern Cali we swarm to a little place called Little Star but if your not in the mood to ride all the way to San Francisco there is a place nestled right in the heart of Downtown Campbell that is Little Stars twin sister Blue Line.
Not sure what to order they have pre made combinations available for each crust type on their menu or if your feeling creative you can create a custom pie with various toppings. The Michael Angelo wasn't in me that day so I ordered one of their pre made combinations The Blue Line aka The Little Star pizza which consists of Spinach blended with ricotta + feta cheese, mushrooms, onions and garlic. I admit Blue Line serves a very scrumptious deep dish pizza which I was told was made with a bit of cornmeal. Piled high on with toppings they were not stingy with the portions. Other offerings include a salads, paninis, beer, and a variety of appetizers which of course includes your chicken wings and garlic bread.
Blue Line has the appearance of an upscale pizzeria and definitely delivers with quality ingredients and fresh vegetables, so it gives you a run for your money. When that time comes and your in the mood for pizza which for me is all the time, Blue Line will surely mend that bond between your cravings and...
