For quite some time, I had been wanting to try J Christopher’s in Canton, GA, for breakfast. My walking buddy and I decided today was the day.
We arrived a little after 9 AM and selected a table on the outside terrace. There was only one other couple on the terrace and they advised us to go inside to let restaurant staff know that we were there.
My friend went inside and stood by the front counter. Five minutes turned into 10 minutes, and although the two servers repeatedly walked past her, no one acknowledged her presence. Finally, I stepped inside to see what was going on. The restaurant was not packed with people and one server finally acknowledged us and immediately shared they were short staffed. I reminded her that even being short-staffed, it does not take but a second to look up and acknowledge a customer who is waiting.
She finally came outside to take our orders, the only problem being that we had not yet been given menus. Finally, we ordered and food arrived fairly quickly.
The food was okay but not exceptional and definitely overpriced. The potatoes that came with my eggs looked like Ore Ida potatoes.
One more thing to share...my friend had actually gone there the previous day with 5 other friends for lunch. The big banner in front of the restaurant says Open 7 AM-2 PM. The group of women arrived at 1 PM and the staff refused to seat them as it was too close to closing time. Really?
I can tell you that based on my experience today, once is enough, and I will not be returning to...
Read moreI've eaten at 3-4 of the J Christopher's in and around Atlanta. This was one of the worst experiences in any location I've been to. We were asked to wait to sit even though there were tables open and that's fine. Maybe they needed to be cleaned off. I guess that was not the issue as the table we were sat at was still dirty. I wiped it down myself. We were greeted right away by our server and she took our order. My daughter asked for the just Bubba without eggs and just potatoes and got eggs and grits. I ordered the Belgium waffle with the strawberries on the side. Also, a side of crispy bacon. The waffle was wonderful, and the bacon was perfect. The strawberries tasted off. Another daughter ordered the parfait, and she said the fruit in her order also tasted off/bad. We told our server right after. She offered to give us more fruit... clearly, that's not the option. No apologies were given for the bad tasting food. No real concern that something might be wrong in the kitchen. She just walked away after we declined the offer. The overall look of this location is really poor. I don't care for the decor but even worse is the piled up dishes on the counter / bar area. Not a good look. I guess we'll just go back to Woodstock and deal with...
Read moreVery disappointed with our visit to J. Christopher's today. We arrived shortly after 9AM and the restaurant did not seem busy or crowded. We were not greeted. The lady behind the hostess station just looked at us and said "two". Not a question, just a statement. I had expected at least a greeting. We asked to be seated outside so we could enjoy the fresh air. We went outside, and she gave us our menus and left. She did not ask if we wanted anything to drink, just left. She returned a few minutes later to drop off flatware and left again. I guess she figured we didn't want anything to drink or eat? We waited seven more minutes, and when no one came to take an order, we realized we deserved better and just left. I saw her come out and scoop up our menus as we were backing out, so I felt like she was just waiting for us to leave. We were very disappointed with this, as we had eaten here once before, and really enjoyed it. I'm not sure I will go back. I understand staffing shortages, but the place was not busy. If there was some issue, maybe she could have said something, or just treated us a customers? Maybe say "hello"? We felt pretty...
