Secret Shopper/For Food Reviews here- Hello we went in to Attempt trying this cool Moon Hut Restaurant! My colleague & I were very excited as we are both from up North so this place had a "Diner" look/environment to us! It is sooo nice and cute inside and the tables were set up lovely!!! We were soooooo excited to order our food!
ATMOSPHERE: BEAUTIFUL! Cozy, family feel! Friendly! SERVICE: Meh- Our server forgot our Creamers with our coffees, by the time she brought them, our coffee were cold and she never offered to give us new ones. After preparing our coffees to our liking- ONE SIP and we thought the taste was horrendous. We took the liberty to tell our server (we didn't like them) but she never even once apologized OR offered to remove them from our checks, she actually wasn't even surprised to hear this news from us as if we were NOT the only ones who has made this type of complaint. Therefore, we paid for brown flavored water basically. She did however ask us if we would like anything else and we said water. She returned with two glasses and a cup of ice as there is water on the table. When we drank the water you could instantly tell the "TAP water" was coming from a dirty pipe. She was constantly spaced out and not helpful on which plate was their staple. (We don't mention names of the server as we're not out to get anyone laid off). FOOD: Listen I go to 3 restaurants a DAY to do my job for the last 19 years. I can assure you this was NO DINER FOOD UNFORTUNATELY. We truly feel we just consumed SALT.... My colleague had a Meal with Canadian Bacon- While I ordered the "chicken & Waffles" With all due respect to the owners- If you don't change your cook(s) & Menu- I truly don't see you surviving. This place has so much potential! To the future customers- If you want to be in the restroom for hours suffering from stomach cramps for HOURS. this is the place to go! If you don't care about having BAD coffee and NO flavor in your food minus EXTRA SALT- This is the place to go! Hey, the bread is...
Read moreWe really wanted to like this place and went in with an open mind knowing it was a soft opening. Food was good, our server was good, prices weren't much different than any of the other local breakfast places, music was fine. The deal breaker for us was the manager (owner?). The moment we walked in, I noticed she was speaking disrespectfully to her servers. She seated us and rolled her eyes letting us know it was our server's first day and we would need to be patient. I wish we got his name because our server was fabulous. Yes, it was his first day and his first job as a server; but he was great! Pleasant to talk to, food came as ordered, checked on us regularly, refilled our drinks, etc. But the manager came over several times to complain about him and remind us he was new. When we asked for silverware and condiments, she blamed it on him - though she was the one who seated us and brought our food. Then she charged the table next to us for our meal and had to call someone to help her figure out how to correct the problem, all while blaming our server. SHE brought the checks to both our tables and she was the one who charged the other table for our meal. We thanked our server, told him to keep a smile on his face, and tipped him well. In fact, all the servers seemed pleasant and hard-working. This place won't survive unless they get a manager who knows how to treat their employees (especially in front of customers). We certainly won't be back. I have no desire to watch others get belittled while I'm trying to enjoy...
Read moreThis is the second incarnation of the Moon Hut. The original opened in the early 1960s. It was a local institution for decades, until the owner retired and sold it to someone who converted it into La Fiesta, a Mexican restaurant. That owner closed it during COVID, then sold it to the current owner who has reverted to The Moon Hut.
Through the ownership changes, all the memorabilia have remained. The new owner has added modern touches, such as smart TVs streaming live launch coverage and other space content.
The menu is nothing fancy, but that's typical for our local culture. People want their burgers and fries. You can order hard liquor drinks if you wish, but the atmosphere is family-friendly. All the tables are covered with butcher paper so children can draw with the crayons supplied at each table.
Rose and Denise were our servers. Both were very friendly and attentive. Phillip, the chef and owner partner, came out to introduce himself.
The restaurant has a meeting room in the back which is very handy for groups, parties, etc. I brought a friend there last night who's in town for business; his organization will use that room in the future for private gatherings.
Do astronauts eat here? Not often, but they do. I've been there with astronauts a few times. Just don't expect them to be in the iconic "blue suits" as they have private lives.
The Moon Hut 1.0 was a Cape Canaveral institution for decades. The Moon Hut 2.0 hopefully will have its own long and...
