Indulge me in a bit of a history lesson. The original Moon Hut opened in 1958 (home of the Moon Burger complete with an olive on a toothpick representing Sputnik) and was the go-to diner at the Cape for astronauts and NASA engineers, literally scribbling equations on napkins, equations that eventually put man on the moon. Walter Kronkite famously interviewed Apollo astronauts here, and astronauts through the Space Shuttle era added their mission patches to the impromptu museum in the back. Read moreIt’s been over 30 years since I last stepped into the old MoonHut, and I can’t tell you how excited I am that Sunrise Diner has brought this iconic Cape Canaveral spot back to life! The atmosphere still has that classic diner charm with a fresh, welcoming energy.
I ordered the Fried Green Tomato Benedict, and it was absolutely divine! The poached eggs were perfectly cooked, the house battered fried green tomatoes were crisp and flavorful, and the home potatoes were fresh and delicious. My mom had the Huevos Rancheros and loved every bite, and my daughter enjoyed a true diner classic, french toast with bacon and hashbrown. All perfectly done.
Our server Renee was amazing, so patient and kind while we took our time deciding what to order. Demetri, the owner, was walking around greeting tables, which made the experience feel even more personal and genuine.
I’m beyond grateful to see this nostalgic spot thriving again with the Sunrise Diner! Thank you, Demetri, for keeping a cherished piece of Cape Canaveral...
