We have been in the FMB area for a few days and have already eaten here twice. We knew about Dixie as we ate here a few years ago on our last visit. We were so happy to see that they are open, but sadly, the marina still has submerged and crashed boats.
Parking was no issue when we went at lunch, but when we returned for dinner the next day, we had to park farther away. Not a huge issue. There is just one bathroom, and the first time I went, there was a line (even though the place wasn't busy). The woman in front of me ended up using the men's. The person taking so long in the women's bathroom turned out to be the hostess!
We like the atmosphere, being right there on the water. It's a fun, laid-back place. The evening we went, we had this nice breeze (and even a gust or two - more on that later), so it was very pleasant sitting outside. There was live music as well.
Between our two visits, we had: Grouper Bites - very good, came out SUPER hot. Would order again. (see photo) Fried Green Tomatoes - super good, would definitely get again! Chicken sandwich - my son ordered this and thought it was good but not spectacular. Special - this was hogfish, one of my favorites! I was able to swap parsley potatoes for sweet potato mash. Also came with garlic green beans. Was good!
We totally forgot to take photos of the tomatoes, hogfish and chicken sandwich as we were hungry and just started eating! :)
So, a few nits - I ended up with a black fly in my Chardonnay (isn't it ironic?), but they brought me a fresh glass at no charge. Our server also stood up the check presenter by my water, and a gust knocked it AND my water over onto my purse. Then, she somehow knocked my son's water on him. She was SO apologetic, and it was just some water, so we weren't too upset.
We are still in the area and may have to sneak in one more visit there! We really want to try those mussels and get some more fried green...
Read moreExcellent Waterfront Seafood Dining! We've visited Dixie many times. Located under the bridge to Ft. Myers Beach, this waterfront eatery is a fun place to visit. Hurricane Ian pretty much destroyed the whole place, but they rebuilt and it's just like before, maybe better. Whether you go in daylight or when dark, the waterfront views are great and boats passing by all wave to diners. There's live music just about every night. On our most recent visit we had the Fried Calamari ($13.95). A light coating, fried just long enough to be crispy without overcooking the squid. Our real favorite is the Mussels ($14.95). They are cooked in a broth made with apple moonshine, white wine, butter, fennel, onions, grape tomatoes, loads of garlic and chorizo, served in a large bowl with two ample pieces of buttery garlic bread. The large portion can easily be shared by two or three. I have had it by myself for dinner. Once you break the mussel loose from its shell, scoop up some of the broth and slurp it all down right from the shell. Incredible flavor and it's just a fun way to eat. If you run out of mussels, use the shells or any remaining garlic bread to finish up the remaining broth. Yummo! We ended this visit sharing a wedge of their Homemade Key Lime Pie ($8.95). Limey, tangy, custardy goodness atop a nutty crust. On other visits we have tried the Peel and Eat Shrimp which comes either steamed and hot, or cold. They are delicious either way and a pound is perfect for two diners. They have a large bar with many beers on tap and excellent tropical drink specialties served by friendly and attentive bartenders. Read moreStopped in with a friend for lunch. Great view of the water and even better “joint” feel to the place. Sat at the bar and we were well taken care of by our bartender Michele (a real pro). She actually asked us during lunch rush how each dish was. Super attentive and very nice. Although we went dry it looked like a good beer selection both draft and bottles. But as I always write, ITS ALL ABOUT THE FOOD. And to that end very very good. Oysters (LA Gulf) were ice cold, fresh and a little on the larger side (which I like). Cocktail sauce was standard, no biggie cause I like them naked anyway. It was also nice to not get “banged” on the price. Naples they can run $36-45 a dozen which is nuts, so it was nice to see them @$25. Peel and eat shrimp were as good as they get. Ice cold, probably 14-16’s and super fresh. Again sauce no biggie. For lunch we had the daily fish special on Michelle’s recommendation. Didn’t disappoint. I had it blackened and my pal Rob had it grilled. Nice size portion, perfectly cooked comes with 2 sides. We both had the beans and rice and they were the hit of the day, just ridiculously good and a nice portion to boot. My second side were the collards and they were also perfectly cooked (not limp) and well seasoned. Rob had the slaw which he thought was fine but nothing to write home about. Gotta also give kudos to the tartar sauce. I love when a restaurant actually gives a sh-t about a simple add on. It was cold and absolutely home made. All in all a real good meal, def recommend, I know...
