We came here with a party of 6 for our final night on our vacation. The general atmosphere of the restaurant is fun and inviting. We were seated outside, which we knew would be warm. The temperature was not a problem at all. However, the hundreds of flies (and mosquitos) swarming around us, the food, and the table throughout the meal were insane! We actually had a member of our party end up with one flying into their mouth as they took a bite. Additionally, the food was very unimpressive. In particular, do NOT get the King Crab boil. We've ordered many seafood boils from many places, and this was by far the worst in size, flavor, and presentation that we've ever had (while also being up there with the more expensive dues to it being King Crab). When they brought the small meal boils out (my daughter and I had both ordered this), my first thought was wondering if we had gone ahead and asked to split one, due to the size of the boil. Boils typically have so much food in them that 2 people can split them, and both walk away very full. These were not. I was still so excited for our our King Crabs that I didn't think much more of it than that. But then I picked up the first crab leg to dig into. My daughter and I looked up at each other with puzzled looks as my mother said, "Uh oh! I think they brought you the Dungeness Crab instead!" That actually did make sense as to what we had received. These crab legs were the smallest King Crab legs I have ever seen. Genuinely believing that may have been the case, I gently asked the waitress if they had accidentally brought us the Dungeness boil instead of the King Crab boil. Now, she hadn't been overly pleasant with us up to that point, but I try to give a lot of grace to service industry workers. They were busy, it was hot, and waiting tables can be a crappy job under the best of circumstances. But when I asked her this, you could actually see her face change into purely defensive anger. She insisted they were King Crabs (ok, no problem), and we didn't see her again until we asked her for the check. As we moved forward with our meal, the boil was so incredibly bland (I'm talking ZERO seasoning), my daughter and I decided to use the butter for the Crab legs to pour over the corn, potatoes, etc along with lots of salt and pepper to try give the food some flavor. It was such an overall disappointing dinner experience. On that note, we thoroughly enjoyed our meals and service that just down the road at Nervous Nelly's. And (while a little pricier), the best food we had the whole trip was at Connors Seafood...
Read moreBeen coming to the Yucatan for years but haven’t been in quite some time due to moving to the UK. I am always eager to support, especially after all the hurricanes in recent years and I’ve always had the best food and service. Yesterday was my parents 39th anniversary and as we were here visiting, asked them where they wanted to go for their anniversary lunch. They eagerly and excitedly stated the Yucatan. We arrived and were seated at a high top due to my partner having an injured leg and needing crutches. As we started to look at the menu a server came over and started telling us we weren’t allowed to sit there as her regulars were there and had gone to smoke. We simply asked if she could speak to the hostess who sat us as, obviously she was under the impression the table was empty and we required a high top due to my partner. She stormed off and kept saying this is ridiculous, and caused a scene in front of us with multiple servers after we were told we should stay where we were. Two gentlemen did walk in and take the table next to us and this server loudly said in front of us, “I’m sorry, I tried but those people wouldn’t move”. Firstly, this is incorrect as we would have happily moved had we been provided another table. second, I have literally never seen a server be so beyond rude. We quickly realized she was to be our server as well as instead of coming to see if we even wanted a drink she would ignore our table and quickly run past giving us dirty looks. It got to the point where we felt so uncomfortable we decided to leave and go elsewhere, we told the gentlemen they were more than welcome to take that table and the funny thing is, even they apologized to us as the servers behaviour was THAT poor.
Writing this as to make the establishment aware of the situation as it was a truly disappointing experience and honestly, it would make me think twice about going back to the Yucatan as a first choice again.
Update: my mom did speak to a manager at the restaurant who was extremely kind and we were told they had been made aware of the situation by another server as well. I truly hope the server in question was spoken to,to ensure this kind of behaviour does not...
Read moreI'm a 64 ry old woman who travels 6 or 7 times a year to usually Beach destinations . This year one of our daughters brought me to Fort Myers for my birthday. Up to the time we visited the Yucatan bar & grill we were enjoying the trip though the service Food and rudeness from Kendall our waiter literally did us all in. The drinks were very weak the gator bites over cooked the sweet potatoes fries either twice fried or just hours old not quite sure. We did ask for those to be replaced with something else as the waiter agreed with us that they would probably come out the same. So replacement of mashed potatoes were actually cold in the middle. My salad was brown on all pieces of lettuce. And I could go on and on While visiting the rest room which looks directly into the kitchen one of my daughters noticed a kitchen worker leave the rest room WITHOUT WASHING her hands and go directly to her work station. That did her in from eating her meal. I wanted to treat the girls to a meal so had told Kendall waiter I would pay and went inside to do so. Once inside he didn't even ask me how everything was seeing while passing our table no one had eaten food. Sooo I told him and he did not once look at me he just took my money and cashed me out. I was expecting for him to offer me to speak with a manager though that didn't happen instead he told me if I ever came back to let him know I was gonna STIFF him. Because I guess my payment didn't include his tip due to one of my daughters leaving it on table. I told the girls what he had said and one of them took his tip into him telling him not to ever talk to her mother like that. And that he was rude. He then apologized. But the damage had already been done and what had started out as a perfect day at Fort Myers Beach was ruined. You may want to hit the food trucks if your in the area and not the Yucatan...
