So first, let me start off by saying I would rather post a great review and if I have a problem take it to management. But after a phone call to a manager/assistant manager, I could see where this conversation was going. I try to stop in often and eat here and unfortunately, the past year the service has been going down, the food, thankfully has been good to even it out. Last week I stopped in for a carry out. I ordered a bowl of soup and some brussels sprouts, the young lady said it would be less than 10 minutes. I had a seat checking emails. 40 minutes later I had to find her and ask was my order ready mind you this was at eight 8:30 no dinner rush. As she goes to check on it I hear someone mention, yes we forgot about that one. No big deal things happen I’m easy. I stopped in this week after after 15 minute sitting at a table with no waiter or waitress insight.. I heard the bartender ask if someone going to take care of that gentleman. A server came over to apologize as he said he had a large table in the back, that large table was four people I remember walking in from the hotel. I asked for a water and the mousch, mousch. I received my water 10 minutes later I never seen my waiter again. I did see him talking to a table that apparently they were having some issues as someone else had to go bring them their food. When I called a manager, I did not pronounce the moose moose correctly, and when I asked a question dead silence. Mind you I live on the road, I travel 52 weeks continuously so try to eat at non chain restaurants. I would save yourself some time and suggest top of the Marc, Mary Jane, or any of the other Fine establishments that are in this area.My advice to management is when a customer calls in who is not yelling, cussing, and just giving you some honest feedback, you actually take an initiative and listen. I say that because this manager that I was speaking with had zero interaction, just sat on the phone, not...
Read moreMy recent visit to The Southerner in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, was an absolute delight, and I can’t stop raving about their incredible Southern cuisine! This charming bistro, tucked next to the Drury Plaza Hotel, serves up dishes that are bursting with authentic Southern flavors, made from scratch with the freshest ingredients. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with friendly staff who make you feel right at home, and the food? Simply outstanding. The star of the show for me was their “Not Your Mama’s Meatloaf.” This isn’t your average meatloaf—it’s elevated with a perfect blend of smoky, savory goodness, stuffed with Gouda cheese and finished on the grill for a delightful charred edge. Each bite was tender, flavorful, and comforting, with just the right amount of their signature ketchup sauce (pro tip: ask for it on the side if you want to control the sweetness). It’s the kind of dish that makes you slow down to savor every mouthful. The green beans were equally impressive, stealing the spotlight as a side dish. These haricots verts were cooked to perfection with a generous amount of bacon, giving them a rich, smoky depth and a slight spicy kick that kept things exciting. They were crisp yet tender, striking that ideal balance that makes you want seconds. Paired with the meatloaf, it was a match made in Southern comfort heaven. The service was top-notch, with attentive and personable staff who clearly take pride in what they do. The Southerner’s commitment to Southern hospitality shines through in every detail, from the complimentary plate of house-pickled veggies to the creative twists on classic dishes. Every penny is worth it for the quality and portion sizes—you won’t leave hungry! If you’re in Cape Girardeau and craving Southern food done right, The Southerner is a must-visit. I’m already looking forward to my...
Read moreThis is a newer place that, as its name suggests, offers Southern based dishes. Google Maps identifies it as a bar and grill that's not what this place feels like. The inside decor is clean and fresh with large Buffet booths and 4-top tables. Floor-to-ceiling glass surrounds two of the outside walls making it feel very open. Everyone in our party was sensitive to gluten, and we were happy to see that the menu identified menu items that were either gluten free or could be made gluten-free. It made it much easier and more enjoyable to read the menu and make our selections. We started with the tortilla chip appetizer that came with a medium spicy salsa, guacamole, and white queso. We ran out of chips before we had finished the condiments and our server promptly refilled the bowl for us. I had the pork chop and it was outstanding! My wife had the tacos which she said was "just okay." My daughter had the tuna and loved it. My son-in-law had the meatloaf and thought it was also outstanding. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the attractive surroundings as we ate our meal. No room for dessert this time! Even though they have some pricier menu items with entrees in the $30 range, we enjoyed our meal for 4 (no drinks) for $85 total including a 20% tip. I look forward to returning and trying some of their...
