Deviate Brewing — Restaurant in Carmel

The beer is the star of the show here! Weird, unique, and adventurous brews! Only one sour this time, but plenty of other good choices for me! Several stouts and IPAs.. I really like getting a sampler (4 generous pours) because some are so unusual or high alcohol content that I wouldn’t want to drink a whole pint, but can enjoy a smaller amount. As I understand they are going to offer some food choices soon. We brought in Freddie’s since there was none when we came. Dogs seem welcome inside since I saw 2. There is no front patio and the inside isn’t particularly cool.. but there’s plenty of seating to enjoy your beers and maybe play some games. I liked the metal music playing (some 80’s rock).. maybe not for everyone🤷🏻‍♀️ We took a bunch of brews home...

Good beer for the most part. I really liked “Taste The Hopbow” which was a double IPA infused with Skittles. Big flavor. Filled 2 growlers with it. Totally worth it. Bought an $18 bottle of their mint infused porter without tasting it first. Big mistake. Truly terrible.

Otherwise, Deviate is a nice, small space. Beer servers were nice people. Maybe I came on an off day, but the crowd was kinda douchy and unfriendly.

Overall, this place has great potential but needs to reel itself in a bit on the flavor train. Experimentation is fine but know when you’ve got a batch of garbage (cough...mint porter...cough) and serve it to yourself as a reminder of what not to do. Don’t pawn it off to your customers. They’ll resent you and not come back. I speak...

Came here not expecting much since they don’t have food options other than being your own or order thru grub hub or whatever. But they really make up for it in their beer and hospitality. I came here after a climbing comp down the street and before I even ordered my beer or asked any questions about their brews they were offering me samples, I don’t even like ipas but they sold me on some kinda citrus ipa that was super refreshing after a night of climbing. Very cool guys, they have some neato diy trinkets by their taps that I suggest you take a gander at bc they’re awesome, like who even thinks of hacking a lightbright for your sound system??
