I was super excited to support and try a new sushi place in town! I heard very mixed things prior to going but wanted to make that decision for myself with my own experience.
Looking at the menu choices were enticing! They were different from other places i've been before and was looking forward to it! The environment itself was very clean and bright and the service was okay.
I got Mussels as an appetizer and the temperature was inconsistent (most were cold and one was warm) so I figured "oh, maybe they just serve them differently from other places." I also ordered takoyaki and got something else by mistake that I wasn't able to eat due to a food allergy. Our rolls arrived and they all tasted the same. Another roll arrived and I specifically asked for no avocado because I am severely allergic to it and it arrived with avocado. Mistakes happen! No big deal. I get it. So I sent it back and the waitress seemed a little irritated. Which also, understandable.
Our waitress came back and asked how our food was. We hadn't touched much of it. We wanted to be honest, and mentioned that it was a bit bland and that the rolls tasted alike despite being different. She told us she would have the manager come over to speak to us.
The manager came by and we iterated what we had told our waitress; that the rolls tasted the same, ect. In hopes that perhaps we could have them re-made. He immediately said that everyone has different tastes and that he's "never had not one single person complain about the food." We had mentioned that we just wanted to bring it to his attention. And that the waitress asked and we gave her an honest answer. The manager kept reiterate that everyone's taste is different and that no one ever complains and continued on to say "I don't know what you expect me to do about this. I'm not just going to give out free food." Clearly the conversation wasn't going anywhere productive. We never asked for free food. He got very defensive very quickly. After that uncomfortable conversation; we were waiting for our check to pay, and noticed the manager talking to his waitresses and chefs and looking in our direction quite obviously talking about the situation that had just occurred. He seem very visibly upset as if we had attacked him personally. At this point we were all very uncomfortable. We got our check, we paid it and left. We barely touched our food; so it was all still on the table and paid almost $100.
I'm not one to normally post a bad review and I understand how poorly it can effect a small business; but this was important to me to post this because I don't want anyone else to have this uncomfortable of...
Read moreI want to start by saying I’m not one to ever write reviews and I had zero intentions to, until our interaction with the manager. We got mussels that were cold and sitting in cold broth and the entree and rolls were all bland. Everything almost tasting exactly the same because it all lacked flavor. When our server asked how everything was, I mentioned these things and she said she would have the manager come over. When I reiterated everything to him, he immediately became defensive saying everyone has their own taste, we were the first to ever complain since they opened, and that there was nothing he could do about it so he didn’t know what we expected, insinuating we were expecting a free meal. Mind you, a majority of the food remained on the table when we left. I told him that I never said I expected anything but my intention was to inform them of how I felt the food was. He continued to push and repeat himself a few times that nobody complains and he’s not going to give us free food just because we have different taste than other people. He clearly had an uneasy and almost confrontational demeanor. Once he left and we waited for our bill, we could obviously see him telling other staff about us. As if it wasn’t already uncomfortable enough. We never asked for anything, only offered honest feedback when we were asked and it was clearly not received well and seemed to be taken very personally. Even if the food was good, that interaction alone would make me never return and dissuade...
Read moreI really wanted to like Ganbaru. Any new sushi place is one that I'd like to support, but the food was pretty disappointing. I got excited seeing all the spicy flavorful sounding rolls, but when I received them none of them were spicy at all, they didn't have a ton of flavor, and I was a bit worried about food poisoning because they didn't sit super well when I ate them. Thankfully I did not wind up getting food poisoning, but I did feel kinda gross for a bit after.
Very worth noting I got AYCE at lunch time. It was overall an okay experience. It was quiet and uncomfortable though, not super friendly, food wasn't very good, service wasn't bad but I was one of two people there. I genuinely hope they improve the flavor and atmosphere because I think that would go a long way, but seeing the other people who have left negative reviews and their alleged interactions with the manager I'm not sure.
TL;DR, I don't regret eating it, but I will probably not be returning unless someone invites me and gives me reason to believe it's...
