I'd give 2.5 stars if I could. While the food here is pretty great, the service is much to be desired and it's a definitely a "splurge" to get something with the prices they have. When you walk in it's a very warehouse feel. That's not so bad. Except that the entire right wall is taken up by the coffee prep area and display cases, and the display area is so tall it's nearly impossible to communicate with the workers behind them. I've been in here 5 times over the past year, and each time I'm exceedingly confused as to go about ordering. In the 5 times I've been there I've 1) had someone approach me in line to ask for my order, 2) had someone behind the display case ask for my order while waiting in line, 3) asked someone behind the display cases if I could order, and was told I needed to order at the register. It's a very disjointed and confusing process that seems to change with the day (and I've got 30+ years of experience ordering food in restaurants...I shouldn't have mild anxiety when trying to order food in a cafe).
I've never gone at a time when it's exceedingly busy, and yet the service is always sloooooow. Because they don't seem to have a system down, sometimes the cashier is also trying to slice bread from a customer's order and then take their payment. Other times I've had the cashier double charge me for a pastry and then act like I was unreasonable when I asked exactly what I was being charged for since the total was higher than expected. I went here yesterday with one person in line before me. I ordered a coffee and a pastry and it took nearly 15 minutes to order and get my food. While the pastries and bread are phenomenal (I'm partial to the white chocolate mini baguette), the lack of a clear ordering system and slow service keeps me from making this place a regular stop, despite living within...
Read moreI had such high hopes for La Farm as I've had their baked goods on several occasions and was super impressed. However, this was not the case for my food today. I was starving and heading into work, so I thought I would grab a quick and delicious bite. Everything I asked for was unfortunately not available. I went with the Croque Monsieur, as it was the only cooked food available.
It came out to me in a cute little white box. As I opened the box, I was saddened to see the size of the sandwich and that it was covered with this thick cheese and mayo like substance. It was super greasy and thick.
I tried my first bite and a second bite. My teeth could barely get through the bread. I had to break it off to eat it. I thought maybe I would have a better time with eating the ham. The ham was these three sad and basic slices of deli meat. After trying the ham and attempting one more bite, I said no way am I going to be able to finish this and return it.
I spoke with the manager upon returning the sandwich. He explained that their food is brought in from another location, and they just have a toaster in the back to warm it up; so it is better to go to the other location. If you know the quality of your cooked food will not be the best because you do not have adequate facilities then do not offer it.
Two stars for being able to access a manager and get my money back. Minus three for the lackluster service and telling me to leave and go up the street for better quality food. Also, for not indicating on your menu that it is controlled by you on an adjustable screen, what items are not available.
I will not...
Read moreCoffee was good and strong which is reflected in the 2 stars I gave. I purposely ordered the quiche because I love "flaky crust" as described on the menu. What came out were two 2 oz triangles 1/2 inch high WITHOUT crust that looks and tasted more like creamy polenta or something poured from liquid quiche carton in grocery store.
Staff were nice to offer me a replacement order but it just seem bizarre a "French" cafe helmed by a Frenchman tried to pass that as quiche. Guess they want to pull the wool over the eyes of North Carolinians. Maybe they should stick to baking bread. BTW, that 4 oz piece of egg passing as quiche cost $7.95 without any sides such a leaf of green or a slice of bread. My only regret was not taking a photo of the quiche before they took it back. Oh, and it was cold so it must have been made in a nonstick pan (without any crust) and cut into triangles a few hrs earlier.
Again, Staff were very pleasant, though forgetful. First, they forgot my coffee and I had to walk up to remind then 10 min after I ordered it. Then they forgot my replace sandwich after they took the away the quiche. My friends finished their meals and I had to go up to ask for my lunch. They forgot again!
I have always been a fan of their bread but it looks like the dine in experience is not something I...
