Update 2023: dropping down to 2 stars. A relative ordered a strawberries and cream birthday cake for me, and it was one of the ones on their list so nothing custom or complicated. The icing was clearly a buttercream frosting even though we've ordered this before with actual cream cheese frosting. The response from the manager was 'we are sorry our cream cheese icing was not what you were expecting' - as if suddenly everyone at our gathering doesn't know what cream cheese frosting tastes like. It was a bit condescending considering possibly the baker did actually make a mistake in the recipe (they have another strawberry cake which only uses buttercream) even though they claimed they didn't. You can see my updates through the years, and they seem to really struggle getting things right. They did offer a gift card in the amount of about 25% of the cake cost. After so many consistent issues, not sure this will be our go-to anymore for cakes sadly.

Update in 2022: just picked up a birthday cake, and they spelled the name incorrectly on the cake. I was so concerned about it being the right kind of cake that I didn't notice until I got home. While I love their cakes, I am dropping their stars down to 4 since they seem to consistently struggle with listening to instructions and paying attention to detail. I ordered a custom cake from another place in North Hills Raleigh a few yrs ago, paid $280, and I was incredibly disappointed with both the design and the taste.

I was nervous about this one. I was a bit shocked they didn't have samples to try of their flavors so I tried the red velvet cupcake. I have to say I wasn't impressed as it was a bit dry, but I still proceeded to order the cake.

When I picked it up, it really was gorgeous, but the design wasn't quite what I asked. The roses on top were supposed to be red, but they were all black. They did add some red very quickly and knocked some money off the price. They were very nice and accommodating. Everyone at the party absolutely loved the cake - flavor and design. It was a hit.

Overall, I am pleased with the experience and will be ordering from them again very soon. Their pricing is fair, and I am happy with how they handled the small mishap. My only recommendation is to offer bite size samples at least for those wanting to purchase an...

Once in a Blue Moon Bakery made our wedding cake for our December 2023 wedding at The Meadows and I'm so glad we chose them! Cake is my favorite dessert and our wedding cake was truly one of the best cakes I've ever had. The flavors of both cakes were incredibly good (we chose a chocolate cake with espresso buttercream and a yellow cake with raspberry and cream cheese frosting) and they were both so fresh and moist. I was very sad to finally finish the leftovers afterward! My husband actually doesn't even really like cake, but even he also thought it was great! We both grew up in Cary, so choosing and supporting a local bakery for our wedding was extra special, too.

Lily and Leanna were great to work with during the planning process and were very organized and responsive. Their tasting is well set up so that you get to try all of their cakes, mousses, and frostings to see what your favorites are and what you think pairs best. They were flexible in letting us choose different combinations of flavors and textures that best suited our taste and even had a flavor and design meeting with us. The taste of the cake was the most important thing to me rather than having a huge, ornate wedding cake, but our cake was both beautiful and delicious!

Once in a bluemoon has been a favorite for me and my family for many years as they cater to vegetarian and vegan requests. And their cakes are very well made. In April I had a vegan cake made that was just fantastic. This review is for a cake I bought yesterday that I had not pre ordered. I requested for a 6 inch cake what they had available, preferably vegan. Turned out the only one they had was a 6 inch and it looked great. We bought that in the afternoon, promptly refrigerated it and cut the cake late evening. Turns out it didn't seem fresh and felt stale. The icing was separated from the cake. So I wasbt able to offer that to the guests. I was surprised as the store is known for their quality products. And called them following morning. They clarified that the cake we bought was Gluten free and it is normal that it doesn't retain freshness for long. Knowing this upfront would have helped make the decision on whether to buy or not. They only offered 50% refund. I now have a cake in the refrigerator that I need to throw away that uneaten and only get half my money back.

Their staff and service in general is great so I have still stuck with a 3 star for service. Cake was not good this time,...
