Three week later update: Upon returning again for dinner, I was promptly greeted and told to sit anywhere I would like. The dining room wasn't too packed, but it was noticeable that they had plenty of orders flying out of the kitchen for To-Go (probably Uber Eats, Grubhub, and the like).
Our waitress came by and got our drink orders, and we got our food orders in. This second visit, we noticed that our food got the attention it deserved and wasn't left to die on the pass.
Our onion ring appetizers were hot and delicious. We got our food orders quickly, and the biggest thing I noticed this time was the food was nice and hot. The food tasted great, like before, but you can tell the kitchen and the wait staff were working together this time.
We had absolutely no issues this time, and I would recommend others to give this location a shot. The taste of the food, with the portion size, and the price point, there is a lot to like about this restaurant. We will definitely keep them in mind when we decide to eat out.
I'm glad we gave Metro Diner a second shot.
Bumped up the ratings to 5. First time visiting Metro Diner after our family decided to try the restaurant for an early dinner. Upon arrival, we noticed the restaurant was fairly empty, with only one waitress. We placed our order, and the food took almost 30 minutes to come back. Although we were told that they were short staffed, it didn't appear busy.
Perhaps it was the waitress, but the food wasn't hot. I could tell the food had the potential to be great since it did taste good, it was just not hot. The two kids had the kid chicken and waffles with the waffles being fluffy, and the chicken having the right amount of crunch of saltiness wanting to be lathered in some syrup for that sweet and salty taste you want in chicken and waffles. However, it wasn't hot, just sort of warm.
Wife had the Salmon Ceaser Salad and she commented that the salmon had a good flavor. I had the Iron City Meatloaf, with some mashed potatoes and seasoned french fries. The meat loaf and mashed potatoes were just warm, but the taste was there.
I suspect the food was sitting in the warming tray at the front of the kitchen for at least 15 minutes to 20 minutes. I know I saw the two kids chicken and waffles there for a while, but I couldn't see the lower area of the warming station which may have contained the meatloaf entree.
To sum it up, the food had a great taste, but the temperature was definitely a miss. For a first time visitor, I would probably not return because I would rather find a place that hits both on taste and food...
Read moreI am very disappointed in my visit today but not surprised. I have visited this diner a handful of times and each time my experience is worse than the last. When we got there I requested a booth as I have a small child that does not use a high chair. The tall blonde guy was rude about seating us in a different spot than where he wanted due to my request and I let that go. I ordered the Bissel breakfast for myself and French toast for my son with a side of fresh fruit. The fruit was not brought to the table and when I asked my waitress Dana to remove it from my bill she seemed annoyed as it was already prepared and she pointed to it sitting. My hash browns were burned and I wasn't going to say anything and just eat the top until I got to my pancakes. The pancakes were golden brown on the top but the bottom were as white as the plate they were served on. I wish I had taken a picture for reference. Almost as if they were flipped and immediately put on the plate to be served. When I informed the waitress she offered to cook more but I had already lost my appetite and told her no thank you. She insisted and offered a go box. Again, I said no thank you as I was not going home. Meanwhile, the entire time my family was there we could hear the servers and hostess talk about all of the issues they were having with orders as my family was seated right next to the kitchen. I could also hear my waitress ask the manager “So what are we going to do about this?” in regards to my order. When Dana brought us the bill for the second time we were still charged for the fruit after it had been taken off and the manager told the waitress to give us a 10% discount. Dana seemed surprised that we mentioned the charge for the fruit. It seemed as though she was trying to sneak it in. I do not feel as though serving raw food was a priority to this manager, especially considering he was in the kitchen cooking the entire time we were there. I cannot believe they expect their guest to pay for food they cannot eat. My family will not be going back anytime...
Read moreHorrible experience today. First off the food came out cold and not as ordered. This is the third time this has happened. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt AGAIN. Second and why we will never return. We had to witness this poor mother and her little son be slandered and harassed as a result of racism and the restaurant let it happen with no help for this mother and her son. This little boy about 6-7 and his mother who was at best 5’0 come in and sit down. They are talking and laughing looking over the menu. The little boy plays on his tablet after a few minutes. I’m at the table next to them and cannot hear anything. This white man says not to the mother but, the little boy that he needs to turn it down, no one is trying to hear that. You can see the mother is very hurt by this, I see her whisper to her son. Again, I/we do not hear anything from the device. I see the man continues to say things at the little boy and not the mother. At this point I’m ready to stand up for them, but the mother asks to be moved tables and they do… this man gets up and follows to their table and starts saying crazy things to this baby boy. The restaurant knows what’s going on. Instead of telling this man to leave, they allow this harassment and clear racism to happen IN THEIR RESTAURANT. After the man does this continuously the mother finally says why are you speaking to my son and not me. I see another table start to go in on this man as well. He eventually leaves. But the restaurant should have done their due diligence and called the police. Apologized to the mother and her baby and comped their meal at the least after allowing them to go through that, even after removing themselves from the problem and trying to enjoy their meal in this establishment. I pray I never have to witness something like this again. I pray that mother and her baby do not have to be victims to this again. & I pray if this does happen again the establishment would have some sort of sense to protect a woman and child being assaulted in...
