I have no idea what just happened. For the short version, my wife and I waited almost an hour and a half and our food had still not come out. We ended up just walking out. We should've done it much sooner, but we were really excited to try the food.
Long version: please note that these time stamps are based on text messages with my brother in law who was joining us for dinner.
We walked in at around 6:05 and were asked to sit where we wanted. There was no one else sitting in the restaurant except for one person waiting for her to-go order. We ordered an appetizer immediately while we waited for my brother in law to arrive, which he did about 10 minutes later at 6:19. After he arrived, their dinner rush began. They ended up having a full dining room. This is where we were a bit confused. They continued to ask people to sit where they wanted and we had taken our seat in the corner of the restaurant when we first got there... this may have been the cause for this, but we watched as the lone waiter took drink orders from everyone that had walked in after us, going around in a circle, ending at us. We were able to order our waters and an appetizer. We got our water immediately and the appetizers took about 15 minutes. After that, we got NO HELP. The waiter kept taking the orders of everyone else that would walk in, but probably forgot about us. I was finally able to get the waiter's attention and placed our order at about 7:10. Then at about 7:30, when everyone that had walked in after us were finished and had started paying/leaving, my wife and I realized how ridiculous it was that we had waited so long due to a craving, so we got up, paid for our appetizer, and went to Amy's across the way.
Funny part is is that the waiter didn't even remember us when we went to go pay for the appetizer! Then when they did, they offered to bring out the appetizer immediately, to which I reminded them that we had already finished the appetizer an hour ago.
We were really excited to try a local pad thai place and were really disappointed with our experience. I wish I could have left a review on the food.
The chicken patay was...
Read moreOn Thursday for lunch, we were in Cedar Park for an appointment and were craving Thai food. We decided to try Cha-da Thai restaurant in Cedar Park. It was not busy, and we were told to sit wherever we wanted. The interior could use a refresh and a good deep cleaning, but it was not bad enough that we didn’t want to eat there. Service was not the high point of our dining experience. Both servers seemed to be new, and the service was inconsistent.
We started with the Golden Bags appetizer. It comes with four pieces and is a nice small appetizer for two people. We really liked the cucumber sweet and sour sauce that was served with it. We ordered off the lunch menu and my wife got the Pad Thai with shrimp, and I got the Panang Curry with chicken. The lunch plate comes with either soup of the day or a salad. The salad was a small side salad with peanut sauce dressing, which was okay but not our favorite. The soup was Tom Kha soup and was creamy with mushrooms and chicken. I liked it more than my wife did. The Pad Thai was a large portion and was very saucy, which we like. It was sweater that we have gotten at other Thai restaurants, but overall, it was okay. Because of the sweetness, we would not get it again. The curry dish was creamy and loaded with chicken. I would get it again. We didn’t ask for spicy and the server didn’t ask what spice level we wanted, but both dishes were not spicy, at all. There's a spice tray that they will bring to your table so you can add more spices if you want.
Overall, Cha-da Thai restaurant is an okay option if you are craving Thai food. Just be prepared to deal with inconsistent service or get the food to go. Improving the front of house will go a long way in making a better dining experience. Sadly, for us, we'll look elsewhere...
Read moreChanda Thai has had exceptional Thai Food ever since their doors opened. They were one of the very first restaurants with Thai offerings. The very first time I dined here I ordered the Pad Thai as I had minimal Thai food experience. It was delicious.
Their Tom Kha Soup was also exceptional. Chicken or Tofu and mushrooms in lime juice, lemongrass, galangal, Kaffir lime leaves, Thai chili and coconut milk. Garnished with cilantro or NOT for me!!!
Based on reviews, I also tried the Golden Bags-Available in a regular version as well as a vegan version. To date I have had both multiple times as they are very unusual and very good. Here’s what’s in the regular version: Deep fried diced chicken, sweet potato, yellow onion and curry powder sauteed with soy sauce and wrapped with rice paper. Served with cucumber sweet and sour sauce.
I’ve also expanded my palate and have tried Pad Kee Mao (Chicken, Pork, Beef or Tofu) Stir-fried flat rice noodles, green bean, Thai basil, Thai chili and garlic with a special soy sauce mix. Yummy!! Has become another fave!
One of my new favorites, especially in the summer is Kua Kai (Chicken, Pork, Beef or Tofu) Stir fried flat rice noodles, egg, bean sprout, pickled radish with special soy sauce. Served with green salad and sweet Thai chili sauce.
Recently I’ve started on their curries- Ga-Ree Curry (Shrimp-8 or Squid-8) Yellow curry and coconut milk with yellow onions and potatoes. Served with a half boiled egg and sweet and sour cucumber sauce.
Frankly, I’m a big fan and although there are many other Thai restaurants in the area nowadays Chada is my go to as they...
