Wow. Just wow. New Fortune sent a $10 coupon for $50 spent in the mail and we took a chance on a date night. We are so glad we did. The service was awesome. The environment is great (no TVs!!). The food was amazing. It is no surprise this won “Best Asian—Greater Milwaukee” in 2019! Shoutout to our awesome, attentive, and funny server Eric!
We had a Year of the Dragon cocktail. Strawberry, fresh squeezed lemonade, and vodka. It was a great compliment to the spicy mustard. The homemade Spicy mustard, and sweet and sour sauce were delicious. The spicy mustard is a horseradish mustard that packs a great punch up front and then backs off so you can still taste your food. The combination platter was a great way to start—some of the best shrimp tempura we’ve had, a delicious beef stick, a unique chick stick, and some of the best crab ragoons I’ve ever had. The egg roll wasn’t my favorite, but it was still good. As for our entrees, the kung Pao beef was with peanut, crispy water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, crunchy green bell peppers, and peanut sauce with a spicy bite. The hung sue was even better, the tempura on the chicken was amazing and it had mushrooms and snap peas in addition to bamboo and chestnuts.
Cons: it’s a little difficult to find parking. We ended up parking on the street behind a ways. Also, the rice was a little dry? Like it’d been sitting in a pot for awhile. But once you smothered it in the sauce it was great.
Other than that, no cons at all. It was...
Read moreMy wife loves Asian food, so we decided to try it. There were several younger people running the hostess area and waiting on tables. While they were all very friendly and looked to be working hard, there was definitely a sense that the restaurant was struggling to function efficiently. People coming in to inquire about dining were being told longer wait times (including us), but there were open tables. The most frustrating part of our visit was "no one" ever came to check on us after getting our food. My wife would have liked some rice with her dish (we thought it was strange it didn't come with any), I wanted more water and another napkin. Simple things, but no one was around. I finally got the attention of a man who got me water. He seemed like he could have been the manager or owner, again very nice, but never asked if we needed anything else. Sitting near the door, I could see several groups of people who would wait for over 30 minutes to be seated just leave while tables sat empty. The food was excellent, just not the best managed restaurant. Hopefully, this will be corrected. I know it is tough to get help, but they just need to do some coaching of the help they have. I will give it another try in the future to see if...
Read moreThe service is good, it is friendly, it is attentive. They seem like a great community partner. As far as the food, it is edible. The problem is that it is precisely the same food as nearly every strip mall place around with strangely textured meat, be it chicken, pork or beef that has no structure to it. It melts in your mouth and not in the good way. I met friends here after telling myself I wouldn't go back and was surprised to see it was recently named #1 by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The only way this is number one is if the two places out of literally dozens of others with the exact same I Can't Believe It's Meat dishes in Milwaukee/Ozaukee/Waukesha counties that I have had, were not tried. I would gladly collect samples of the same dishes from places in Sheboygan, Plymouth, Grafton, Cedarburg, West Bend, Brookfield and Mequon and challenge anyone including the Journal-Sentinel to tell them apart and not name the Brookfield and Mequon places the only ones with real meat and the best. If you really like Chinese/American food, you know the two I am talking about (they rhyme with Amperor's Ditchen and Song Anne Chalice). I'm giving New Fortune two stars, with the food bringing down the five I would give...
