In short, I would pass. There are other options in the nearby area that could easily be far better in food, atmosphere and service.
I stopped at Tokyo Sushi & Grill with my sister for a quick lunch yesterday. I tend to stay away from restaurant chains, which there was a surplus of in the area. After quickly browsing Maps for highly rated Asian restaurants nearby, I picked TS&G on a whim (I was traveling and trying to find a spot in between us).
The restaurant is located in a small brick strip mall with a handful of other businesses. There was plenty of parking available.
We were able to walk in and be seated right away, despite arriving there at noon on a Saturday.
The dining room has seen better days. The furniture has significant wear and the booth cushions where we sat were worn and deflated. I overlooked it because of the high ratings I had briefly seen.
There appeared to be a normal selection of typical hibachi/sushi items. I was disappointed in the lack of variety of the specialty rolls. Everything was priced low, at least compared to similar restaurants I've visited elsewhere.
The waiter did not introduce himself so I'm unsure of his name. He was not able to accommodate a virgin cocktail request for an unexplained reason (it's the same ingredients sans alcohol), and could not tell us ingredients for the strawberry daiquiri mix or the house sauce (allergens were a concern). He came back shortly after the drink order and seemed annoyed that we were still considering our meal options.
I opted for beef teriyaki and two maki rolls. My sister got a peppered tuna dish - which the waiter said would be bad without the sauce. She enjoyed her dish despite the waiter's two cents, and the presentation was nice. The beef teriyaki was overcooked and loaded with onions. There were two small pieces of broccoli heads and two oversized carrot slices to accompany the onions and over sizzled beef, both of which were crunchy. The accompanying sushi rice was cooked well, and the teriyaki sauce itself had a nice flavor. The Philadelphia roll I had was sweet for some reason which was off-putting. My other roll, spicy salmon, had good flavor but there were tempura sprinkles on top that were soggy and unwelcomed.
The waiter brought the checks while I was still eating, and then proceeded to take forever to return despite being able to see him just hanging out at the register. I will also note that he did not remove any used dishes from our table the entire time, which I've never experienced.
Needless to say, I will not be back. On a high note, there is a nice coffee/chocolate store in...
Read moreThis wasn't my first visit to Tokyo Sushi & Grill in Sugarcreek, but it was a delightful lunch. My husband and I popped in for an afternoon lunch, were seated immediately. It's a really cute place with a fresh sushi bar that has an excellent sushi chef that makes all of the sushi to order. During the week, they offer specials on their sushi, though I opted for the lunch bento box which was a fantastic deal at under $15. I got the shrimp tempura and the spicy salmon roll as my two options. It comes with miso soup, salad, rice, and a few dumplings. It's actually a lot of food and it's beautifully plated in a bento box. The tempura was nicely crunchy, with two huge shrimp and a bunch of very tasty veggies to complement it. The spicy salmon roll was delicious as usual, I really love their sushi here, it's a wonderful treat.
My husband got the dinner steak hibachi plate, with noodles instead of rice. It was a massive plate of food and I was able to take a few bites of it, it was absolutely delightful. The sauce they use for the hibachi is rich and full of flavor.
The service is wonderful at this restaurant, we never saw the bottom of our drinks. Our server was very nice, super attentive and very prompt. Tokyo Grill is a favorite, but more so, they make killer sushi that doesn't...
Read moreThe short blonde waitress doesn’t know customer service. You can tell she really didn’t care because she didn’t even ask us what was wrong with the food. We ordered the jalapeño poppers and when it came I found a big black thick hair right in the sauce. It was clear as day and right in front of my eyeball. It was gross. Looked like a pubic hair. When I told the waitress nicely, I did not have an attitude about it. I told her and all she said was “ok.” And just took it without saying sorry like a normal waitress does. So she came back with a new one and still didn’t apologize for the thick black hair that almost looks like a pubic hair and the grossness. They should really update their menu because the udon noodles are made in a miso broth but it doesn’t say it on the menu so how would we know what the soup is. Udon noodles are mostly made in a soy base broth. It would have been okay, if they said that it was made in a miso broth on their menu. But it does not! So we didn’t even eat the noodles because we don’t like miso base. We didn’t even get a bag for our leftovers that we had to carry. The raw fish tasted good, miso soup was kinda salty, and the food came out fast. But the hair really grossed us out so if you want some black hair in your food, go to Tokyo sushi and...
