I recently had the pleasure of dining at a Thai restaurant that left a mixed impression on my taste buds and wallet. While the food was undeniably delicious, I couldn't help but feel that the prices were on the higher side, especially considering the additional costs for basic items like a fountain drink, which came to a staggering $6.

The standout dish that stole the show was the duck curry. Its fiery spiciness and perfectly balanced coconut flavor were a true delight. The tender duck paired with the aromatic curry sauce created a harmonious explosion of flavors that I thoroughly enjoyed.

On the other hand, the pad sew, a dish I typically prefer to be hot and spicy, fell short of my expectations. While it had a pleasant taste, it lacked the heat I usually look for. I must admit, other Thai places on campus offer spicier pad sew options that I personally prefer.

Although the food was enjoyable, the overall dining experience was dampened by the perceived expense. The high cost of a simple fountain drink caught me off guard and added to the feeling of being overcharged.

In summary, this Thai restaurant offers tantalizing flavors, particularly in their duck curry. However, the prices, including the surprisingly steep charge for a fountain drink, left a less favorable impression. While I found the food to be good, I believe there are more reasonably priced options available...

Stopped here for lunch on the way back to Chicago. Two words: spicy and delicious.

I ordered Basil Spicy Noodles and my friend ordered Green Curry, both with medium spice and shrimp. The egg noodles and all the veggies combined very well in my dish, and the shrimps were pleasantly plump and cooked perfectly. The sauce was so delicious I ate too much! The Green Curry was spectacularly tasting with a delicate sweetness to it. My friend piled on more chiles the waitress provided - he was sweating bullets and loving it!

We ended the meal with Mango Sticky rice. Mango was succulent and ripe, and the rice the perfect level of coconut sweetness. Definitely a must have for dessert.

One con was the price - $49 before tip for a drink, two entrees, and dessert. So a little more expensive than most Thai places. But I will be coming back here if I ever come through Champaign again because the food is spectacular and is more than...

Very disappointed. We wanted to stop in this tire restaurant on the way across country because of the good reviews. We ordered to go and both ordered vegetarian dishes but 30 minutes on the road we opened our food to find out that we had been served chicken and tofu combined together. I'm not quite sure how I will mistake like that happens but while we were picking up food there was multiple other people that got their orders wrong as well. The food was extremely spicy as well when we asked for medium. So if you're normally used to ordering medium do not order it at this restaurant. When I called to complain they even told me after that they serve their medium a lot spicier than others. Even considering all of the negatives I assumed the food would at least taste good but that was not even the case. I am truly shocked so many people had good things to say about this place. I hope I just caught them...

I tried a few dishes here, and overall, the food turned out pretty good. • Pineapple Fried Rice with Tofu (Medium Spice): Really tasty and well-balanced. The pineapple added a nice sweetness that worked perfectly with the spices. • Yellow Curry with Tofu: Decent but nothing too special. It’s okay if you’re craving curry, but not a standout. • Fried Rice with Basil: The star of my order! Very flavorful and aromatic—definitely the best dish I had. As for the place itself, the ambience is just okay—a small spot with plenty of parking, which is a plus. Service is fast and efficient, no complaints there. The only drawback is the pricing. Portions felt a bit on the smaller side compared to other restaurants offering similar dishes, so it did feel slightly expensive for what you get. Overall: Good food (especially the basil fried rice), quick service, but I’d say value for money could be better.

Thara Thai is a local institution! They have simply the best Thai food in Champaign, Urbana or perhaps in all of Illinois. They are a true family run business, and they treat you like you're part of the family. There are 3 main considerations if you're planning on going here: 1. They're often busy, and their dinning room is small (it probably seats 40 people if people are using all the seats,) so plan for a short wait if you go during a busy time. 2. It is a little more expensive than you may be used to paying at a similar type of place. It is worth it, though. 3. Since they are family run, they don't have a huge staff. Once you are seated, you may have to wait a bit longer for service than typical. They are trying really hard to get to everyone, though.

Great Thai food in HUGE portions! It's not in the campus area, but it's right off the highway and a perfect place to eat after a long drive. We got 2 noodle dishes and they were both good. If you ask for added heat, beware: they will REALLY spice up the dish. It's cooked exactly as you order. The service was wonderful. We stopped near closing, but the host was very patient taking our order and serving. My only complaint is the prices. They are very very expensive. Much more expensive than most Asian places around campus. Even though we ordered basic noodle dishes, each dish was over $20 after tax. It's a good place for Thai food, but with those prices, I'm not sure if I'll be back. No regrets though; it was worth trying!
