Los Hidalguense Taco Truck — Restaurant in Champaign

Located in the parking lot of Bargain Bins and Hunter's Haven.

I've been to quite a few taco food trucks in Champaign-Urbana and Los Hidalguense has the best tacos out of them all. They consistently have the most flavorful and juiciest proteins. However, skip the chicken because it's super-dry like cardboard. Instead order the pork which comes with chunks of pineapple and the chorizo which is charred just to perfection. I think the tortillas are toasted on the grill too, so it comes out with a nice smoky aroma. I also love the nacho corn chips because they're super thick and therefore don't get soggy so easily.

Every week they have two specials of the day: "Taco Tuesdays" (4 tacos/$10) and "Quesabirria Thursdays" (3 tacos and a cup of consomé/$13). The quesabirria are made really well because it has a extra crispy layer on the outside. Follow them on Facebook for updates on any other rare specials.

I came here because Fernando’s wasn’t opened yet and I wanted to try out a new truck/restaurant. I got the 4 for $10 steak tacos (American style) and I wasn’t at all satisfied. The steak tasted as if it wasn’t seasoned at all! When I bit into the taco, all I tasted was the bread. I thought maybe there was too much bread, so I tasted the steak separately and…nothing. Best taco truck in town, which says a ton because the competition is fierce. Two to three mexican style tacos is enough for a meal. Steak, chorizo, and pastor are the best tacos, in that order. Served with radish and grilled onions, and, sometimes, if you are lucky, a full size poblano pepper. Red sauce is on the spicy end but delicious. Green sauce is less so but terrific.
