This evening I had an absolutely terrible experience at BJ’s. My children and I were told 50-60 minutes via text and waited about 75 minutes. No biggie there. We got seated and it was obviously super crowded. It was super loud so I didn’t catch the name of our waitress (lucky for her). Anyways, she couldn’t hear my kids drink orders and assumed what they wanted. I had to raise my voice to ensure that she got my son the correct drink as well as my water with lemon. Mozzarella sticks came out fast and cold. I let that go because the kids were happy. I ordered the prime rib special at MEDIUM. Our waitress clearly didn’t hear me because it came out burnt (photos). When it arrived, I had to wait for her to come over because she didn’t deliver our food and hadn’t been back to our table since we ordered. I asked what temperature she put my steak at and she didn’t know. She asked me to cut it and I told her I didn’t want to cut it to check it because it was clearly over medium. I didn’t want it to be cut if it was sent back. It was well done (medium well at best). She then asked if I wanted them to cook it more and I explained that I like my steak ‘pink’. She asked if I wanted another one and I told her that this is why I didn’t want to cut into it in the first place. She then asked if I wanted a free pizookie instead. I accepted the extra pizookie as I have 2 kids, however, it still doesn’t change the issue at hand. She didn’t know what temperature I said when ordering because she didn’t hear me and she thought I wanted it cooked longer when it was clearly burnt already. She avoided our table after that. My kids needed more drinks and cheese for their pasta but I couldn’t ask her as she was ‘too busy’ to stop at our table. We watched the manager ask every other table about their experiences except ours as well. When she finally asked if we were ready for dessert it took another 20 minutes for us to get it and the guy had been told we were celebrating a birthday. We politely declined the candle. She dropped the check 10 minutes after that and didn’t ask if there was anything else we needed. I had to ask the bartender for waters for my kids. My children were both appalled by the service and my son, who asked to come there, asked to never come back again because the people were “so rude”. Sad and disappointed. The first picture is my steak and the second shows what’s advertised....
Read moreWe've always loved BJ's and have been coming since they were located at Chandler Fashion Mall. Food is always great and servers are helpful and friendly. However, since changing locations we have noticed that front of house, specifically reservations through open table and call ahead wait lost, are suffering. At first we gave them the benefit of the doubt given they have just opened. But have noticed routine issues with these things ever since. The first time we tried to go to BJs following their opening, we got an open table reservation. Open Table is something restaurants have to sign up to be on, so the assumption from the customer side upon seeing a restaurant on there is that they are aware of available reservations and actively accepting. Upon getting to BJs and informing them of my reservation, we were denied the reservation entirely and asked to wait like everyone else. The host stand informed that they "weren't actually supposed to be active on open table yet" and they wouldn't honor it. We ended up not waiting super long so we decided not to hold it against the establishment initially. However, we've now gone back two additional times deciding instead to try to utilize call ahead seating given our open table experience and still have issues. When you call their phone and try to use option 1 for call ahead, it isn't even working. It has been down since they opened. Both times upon discovering this I transferred to the host stand to get added to the call ahead wait list. Both times I was denied. The most recent denial reason given was they were "too busy." I would understand this reasoning if call ahead was a reservation service, but it's not. Call ahead implies getting on the wait list and waiting some/all of the time while at home and on the way to the restaurant to limit waiting at the restaurant. Whether you are busy or not should hold no bearing on call ahead seating availability other than customers and their willingness to wait the amount of time you quote. It seems like a huge missed opportunity to offer such conveniences to your customers if you never honor or actually follow through with them. The food is good enough to keep coming back but it's a huge missed opportunity for the restaurant and does leave a bit of a sour taste for...
Read moreWe used to love BJ's restaurant, especially their hamburgers, and so went to this new location today to celebrate a birthday. Arrived at about 11:15 am. It was pretty empty. The staff at the front of the desk ignored us (the only ones standing there to be seated), and stood there talking instead of seating us. Finally, when the main fellow at the front desk could not get the waiter to break off from his conversation with the other employee, he seated us himself and apologized. We ordered hamburgers at almost $17 each. When the food came, we saw that the hamburger was no longer the same quality and the size was smaller. It tasted okay, but we could not eat the french fries as they had a 'fishy,' odd aftertaste to them. We asked the waitress if they fried the fries in with fish. She did not know. We complained and did not eat them. The waitress was nice, but she never once refilled our water, but instead stood in the back with about 4 or 5 other employees chatting. When we got our check, the waitress did not deduct for the fries, and so I brought this up to her, and she went and talked to the manager. There was no way I was going to pay $17 for a hamburger without being able to eat the fries. The manager (who never came to our table) knocked off $4.00. What disappointed us was that due to inflation we do not eat out as much, and when we do, we hope to enjoy the meal and walk away satisfied. But today, we walked away frustrated at both the food quality and the service. We will not be returning. We cannot justify those prices and the poor quality of food we received. Honestly, we recommend going to Chili's restaurant, for the 3 for $10.99 deal on the back of the menu. You can choose a delicious 1/3 lb hamburger or a huge chicken sandwich, or pasta, all you can drink iced teas or lemonade, and a salad/or other choice of a side for $10.99 total. Service is great and food is fantastic. If they can charge $6 cheaper, with more food, and even tastier than BJ's Restaurant, there is no reason to...
