I was brought back to Thailand TWICE during our meal tonight. I had the most authentic Thai food I’ve had in Arizona, and I eat a lot of Thai food.
First were the fish cakes. After the first bite I was transported to a drunken night in northern Thailand were I got dropped off by tuk tuk at the wrong restaurant but decided to eat there anyways. I ordered a fish dish that I didn’t quite understand what to expect. It was a large fish cake made of Mekong river fish and local herbs and was incredible. I haven’t had anything that tasted like that until now, in fact I didn’t even realize what I had in Thailand was a fish cake until this moment.
Second was the Khao Soi. My all time favorite dish, which is the unofficial dish of northern Thailand but for some reason is absurdly hard to find in the states. If you do find one it’s usually not well done.
This place is an exception. It came with pickled vegetables and sliced raw scallops, it had perfectly cooked chicken, perfectly fried and soft rice noodles, plus the heat level was perfect. Everything you want in this magical dish.
I’ve tried over a dozen Khao Soi’s in Thailand. In fact, I made it a main object of one of my visits to Chiang Mai to try all the best places, and this was right up there with them.
On the negative side the service is sub par. But, on the other hand it’s also common to experience that in Thailand so it’s not completely unwanted.
Overall the service nocks it down to a 4.5, but my god was the food delicious. Get bottles of Chang, and maybe I can forget about the service all together.
Can’t wait...
Read moreOrdered take out from here and it was a miserable experience. It started when I walked in the door to pick up my food, on time. Told the older server who I was and I had a take out order, but he couldn't find my food. After talking to the other server and the kitchen, they said it would be right up, there were other orders.
Okay, I get you might be busy. But I waited another 21 minutes until I finally walked out with something to eat. Picture is what you get when you order Massaman Short Rib Beef Curry to go. Was not the most appetizing dish to look at. Luckily it tasted better than it looked. Not good enough for what I paid for it though.
The worst part of this whole experience was watching the older server constantly put has hands on his mask, pulling it up, down, etc. and then touching other surfaces. He was spreading everything from his mask that he's sweating in to the touch order screen, silverware and people's plates. No way would I want to eat in here with him around.
I also want to comment on this "Postmates.com". If you have been unlucky enough to have ordered something through their service, I can sympathize. You get a text that your order is ready for pick up but when you get there, food isn't ready. So you tap the help button below where it has your total and it offers up another button for "Visit Help Center" where they can support you with your order. Well, guess what? You press that button and you get a blank screen and no support what so ever. I see what Grubhub is now offered here, because PostMates can't do...
Read moreIt takes me a few bad experiences before I write a less than excellent review. I've visited this restaurant a few times. The food has been good most of the time. Past issues: Over a year ago my bill had errors on it. The first time I noticed it when I got home. The second time the error happened I caught it before leaving and asked to have my bill corrected. My recent experience prompted me to write this review. My order was green curry with "fried" tofu. My husband's order, thai fried rice, came and he gladly shared while I waited for mine. After about 15 minutes he was done eating his meal and my order had not even arrived. The waitress hadn't even stopped by our table to check on us. I had to wave her down to check on my order. At that point I asked to have it to go. About 10 minutes went by I stopped another worker to have my meal canceled. Shortly after our waitress stopped by and said the order is ready if I wanted to keep it or cancel. I hate to waste food so I told her to go ahead and bring it to go. Another 10 minutes passed and I finally received my order. When I got home I checked my order and it appeared that the recipe had changed since I last ordered the green curry. There were no carrots. Ok no big deal but the eggplant was thinly sliced instead of chunks. The skin on the eggplant and the green beans were tough. Also, I'm used to fried tofu being fried on all sides. I don't think that I...
