What a hidden gem. This place is quietly some of the most authentic and soulful food I've found anywhere in Phoenix.
Little family-owned hole in the wall Mexican seafood restaurant, owned and run by a super nice family who genuinely loves food and has the talent and curiosity to always make it better. From the ingredients they use to the variety of sauces and preparations they pair with, this place just has an attention to detail and a level of care that is very rare to find any more, at any price. They travel frequently and bring back ideas and flavors from all regions of Mexico.
I've loved exploring the menu - the raw oysters preparados are fantastic, the varieties of fish tacos are fantastic (ask about versions that aren't on the menu!) Of course the cocktails and tostadas and aguachile are fantastic. For non-seafood eaters, don't be turned away; the non-seafood is fantastic! Carne asada tacos, birria, enchiladas, all are great. Even the chips are fantastic, I often ask them to bag me some to go.
The owner makes some of the best tiramisu I've found anywhere, and that's saying a lot. It's not pure traditional; he uses Mexican wafer cookies as the ladyfinger base, and it is amazing. Not super sweet, not cloying, with great aromatic flavor. It isn't always available, and there are always random off-menu items they make on Saturday just because they feel like it - ask about specials, you won't regret whatever they have on hand.
It's a hole in the wall. The location is a nondescript strip mall, the decor is minimal. The food and the family consistently make this one of the most satisfying dining stops I go to.
If you love food, eat here. Just try it,...
Read moreMade it in for our first visit to meet the Kids Girlfriend. I did some digging to find something suggested by others for dishes that are usually stand outs and found Mexico Magico.
Was able to sneak in with the promise of flexibility as they were down some ingredients after some wildly busy days. So so happy we were able to get in. The kids had Chicken tacos and both said they were great. I didn't taste them but the teenage boy is picky and he went to town!
As for my other half and I, she had the Dorado's taco, taco especial and the Ensenada Taco. I got the Chile Verde after Yesenia (owner and our server) said it was her favorite (I am a huge Chile Verde lover). Let me start by saying I thought the tacos were delicious BUT that Chile Verde was absolutely off the chain! Most definitely would recommend.
Albert and Yesenia husband and wife owners are amazing and we enjoyed getting to know them as well. It was a treat to hear the story and make some new friends and we can't wait to make our way back.
P.S. Margs were...
Read moreWe Googled Best Chimichangas near me and through a morning research and debates decided to give a new place a chance after reading rave reviews about Mexico Magico. And we were extremely pleased with what we discovered.
Not only were the reviews 100% true. The new owner of this establishment was friendly and welcoming and offered us a free fish taco to sample, which was absolutely delicious! Light and Crispy full of flavor. We stared with fresh oysters and jalapeño wrapped with smoked bacon stuffed with shrimp. Flavors that were completely out of the world, delicious! For our entre, we shared a seafood dish with grilled shrimp chicken and carna asada in a lava bowl, which, from the words of my partner, is "insanely good!" I recommend everyone that likes finding adventure and delicious food in their dinner experience to check out Mexico Magico Y Cantina. I almost forgot to mention y'all definitely should try they cocktails. The margaritas are GREAT!! I tip my hat to the chef /owner! Thank you, Albert!! We...
