I love Korean food also. It's one of my favorite foods. Lately I'm making kimchi at home monthly as I consume a lot of it it's good for the belly. While I was traveling to Virginia I decided to try this place for some reason. I got the Kim bap and the toppoki. Can't really do an extensive review on these items cuz typically they're simple foods, street foods. They kimbap was pretty good I got it with spicy pork inside. The topokki was okay it was a very large portion but it was also very expensive. In Korea an order topokki would probably cost you under $5 but here they charge almost $15. The Kimbap was $10. Here's a strange oddity they have kimchi but they don't give it to the customers. I think they only give it to the Korean customers or to the people who know they have it like a secret menu item. It's weird because it's sitting right next to the register. Maybe they're looking at the customers and giving it to who they think will like it.
Anyway being a kimchi lover I asked for it and they gave it to me for free. But the kimchi was very bad tasting. It literally tasted just like salted cabbage with pepper powder sprinkled on it. I like my kimchi fermented as it supposed to be as it adds in a certain level of tankiness and complexity to it.
One thing I know for certain is just because you are from a different country doesn't automatically make you some type of chef in your new country. And that was crystal clear here. Although this is Korean street food it doesn't require much culinary talent they was just okay but too expensive for what you...
Read moreBest chicken sandwich I've ever had...I had dinner from this place last night I had the spicy tuna kimbap, the fried dumplings, and a level 3 chicken sandwich. The kimbab was very good but pretty much what you expect. I really like how they fried the wrapper was lighter and crispier than most fried dumplings. The star was the chicken sandwich. First of all they aren't kidding about how spicy this stuff is. This was the hottest thing I've ever had from a restaurant that I would still consider edible. It's not as hot as the "we dare you to eat this" kind of gimmicks you see at chicken wing places, it's not inedible like that but it's seriously spicy. Next time I'll probably get level 2 instead. However, the best part is it isn't just spicy. There's tons of flavor as well. The chicken itself was super juicy with the outside super crunch and perfectly fried. The slaw is great and with the sauce helps to control the heat, and even the bun was really good. I want to try the other things on their menu but it will be very hard to order anything other than that sandwich...I wish I could give these...
Read moreHands down one of the best Korean eateries in the area! Their menu has everything from stews and noodles to kimbap and fried chicken sandwiches. I always get the hot fried chicken sandwich. It's dressed with pickled slaw, a spicy sauce, picked onions, and some sliced peppers. The chicken itself is lightly fried, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The level 2 Hot level of spiciness is honestly just right for me, and I have yet to try the level 3 spice level, but it does pack satisfying heat and flavor without the pain and tears that sometimes comes with this type of spiciness, though I did leave with a slightly runny nose! We've also ordered the jjol myun, or spicy cold noodles, and the seafood udon bokeum, which is spicy seafood with udon noodles. I honestly don't think there's a bad thing on the menu. We are always excited to be in the area, since that also means we can stop by Sirok and have a...
