I had a personal rule that I donāt leave reviews unless theyāre positive. Unfortunately, my experience here has caused me to break this rule. We came here on Tues 3/30, and when my wife ordered a gluten free biscuit, was told that there would be a 30 minute wait, since the GF biscuits are made to order. We thought no problem, and waited. The order wasnāt received until 1hr, 15 mins later (45 minutes past the time that we were originally told). Two days later on 4/1 (today), we decided to go again to give it another chance.. maybe they were just having a bad day on Tuesday. Well, the experience was much, much worse. When ordering, we were told there would be a wait of 25 minutes. We were then told 30 minutes later that the food would be ready in 10 more minutes. However, we ended waiting for 1hr, 45 minutes. Right before the food came, we were then told that they needed to make a substitution on two of our items because they ran out of the pimento cheese. And then, the order still came back incorrect. The worst part is that the service was atrocious. There was someone leading the store (taller woman, red apron) who clearly did not care about customer satisfaction. Not only us, but all customers were getting upset with the very long wait times and poor communication from the staff. On two separate occasions, customers expressed their frustration to her directly, and she literally laughed, shook her head, and said their food was coming. No attempt whatsoever was made to make it right, and there was no sense of urgency amongst the staff. Eventually, another manager arrived from a separate store location (shorter woman, blonde hair), which is when all of a sudden there seemed to be a slight sense of care in the work that was being done. Customers were actually asked how long they had been waiting, and she attempted to give updates on the order status (even though the other staff had no clue what they were doing). If I owned this shop, she would be the only person I kept on staff. She actually had some pride in the satisfaction of paying customers. The place was a complete shambles on more than one occasion, and countless customers left incredibly disappointed with the awful quality of work. The only reason this place stays in business is because of the high tourist foot traffic paired with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was in town all the way from Detroit visiting family due to a death in the family. My brother and I decided to explore downtown Charleston. I've had an unusually difficult time finding good gluten free options in general, let alone the quintessential Southern fare. So, I was ecstatic and surprised when I saw y'all had gluten free biscuits available! The staff answered all my questions about cross-contamination and made me feel assured my intestines would be in good hands. Staff were absolutely amazing- great energy, cheery, and welcoming. Dealing with Celiac Disease the past 12 years I've heard all the moans and groan, eye rolls and attitudes you can imagine. The staff alone gives this place 5 stars. I wasn't even prepared for how fast and fresh everything would be. I received my biscuit promptly with a smile. I got the pimento cheese biscuit, I just had to get it, I'm in the South afterall. I wanted to try both the original and jalapeno and she graciously gave me a little of both. It was absolutely amazing! The biscuit was so buttery and delicate, the crumb was amazing! It was light, but definitely stuck to my ribs. The most authentic gluten free biscuit I've ever had. This was definitely the most satisfying and truly Southern food experience I've had since being here, and I doubt anything will top this. Thank you so much for offering gluten free items! You have no idea how frustrating it is traveling with dietary restrictions. You guys restored my faith in this area. If I lived here I'd be getting it this weekly. I'll remember to come back any time I'm in the area! Price was also pretty good! Best part is, I didn't...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy friends and I were looking for a spot to grab some food to cure our hangover. It doesnāt take much to do so, but somehow this place left us unsatisfied.
I had the sausage, egg, and pimento cheese sandwich with the grits bowl. The grits display I pointed to on the counter had chives, bacon, and cheese in it. Mine was just a bowl of grits. I guess I just ordered the wrong thing somehow, so Iāll take some of the blame for that. Iām a big fan of pimento cheese, and theirs just seemed very ācommercialā for the lack of a better word. I canāt imagine how somebody would try this and decide to purchase a small take home portion for almost $15.
The lady at the counter seemed like she was annoyed with my order. I simply asked how much one of the items on the display was and she let out a huge sigh and said something along the lines of āAre you really going to make me type that in?ā I guess if I had to work with two other people in a kitchen smaller than my bathroom at home I would also be irritable. The guy handling the biscuits in the back seemed to have to micromanage the counter lady for anything to get done.
Overall the food wasnāt particularly bad, but it was certainly nothing special. Iām confident that there are many better biscuit places in Charleston that arenāt directly in the middle of an extremely...
