Elena Hood Today at 9:29 PM Truth be told, my family sat next to the criminal or whatever, unbeknownst to us. which of course is totally ok, like that's cool. However, this "actor" stressed that his friends had left him alone and that he had an "anxiety problem" and that he had "paid for his friends but they refused to show up." So my family and I were devastated for him. we told him "you are our friend" and did everything we could to comfort this guy that was almost I tears. He went on and on about being bullied in school and how he was always dropped and ditched by his friends. The entire night myself and my family did everything we could to make him feel wanted and offered him drinks, etc etc. We put our night on hold, relinquished our fun and relaxation thinking we were helping this individual. The man ended up being the "criminal". the problem is that we were worried about his well being the entire night, that is not acting. telling a family that you have all these psychological problems and how everyone left you is not "acting." My family and I were devastated and when I went to him at the end of the show and said that he used mental illness, loneliness, and bullying as an attempt to sway guests from believing he may be the culprit, he replied "well, I kind do have anxiety." unreal. We are still in shock. *Response to Dinner Detective's response when I called the number given to me, I was offered a "free drink" for my family if we decided to go back to another showing. When I mentioned that my family doesn't drink, I was told "well, I might talk to someone that might be able to help, I'll call you back." Never heard back, also, I was hung up on when I asked that we not be given any reimbursement or special privileges bc we we want to make a point that our child has down syndrome, we just want the actor to not pretend to be mentally disabled and make fun of disabled persons by pretending to twitch and pretend to be handicapped. I didn't want to go this far, but when my child try to write his name on his name tag, he was spoken to in a very aggressive and loud voice, so much so that other guests looked to see what was wrong. When another patron asked what my child was doing wrong to the loud employee, the employee stated it was not time to write name tags. When the other patron, completely unrelated to us, mentioned that my child was doing nothing wrong, obviously was just "looking forward to the show, " I was obnoxiously reprimanded for starting the show too early.

Read moreI went with a friend yesterday and we both couldn’t believe how awful this was. She and I are from different generations as well so it has nothing to do with age.
We did not know what to expect. But, it did say to dress appropriately, bc it was a Saturday night event. So no jeans, tee shirts, etc.
Being held in a hotel , we thought maybe the room would have been set up with some sort of atmosphere.
First of all when we walked in we both were shocked at how the ppl were dressed. Didn’t they get the memo? They looked like they were dressed going to Disneyworld or the beach. My friend and I stuck out like sore thumbs. Not that we were over dressed. It’s just that these ppl were wearing jeans, tank tops, sless print tops or tee shirts that were not appropriate for a Saturday night event. Ok. I think there were 5 women that looked decent.
Then the venue?? Excuse me? The room was so brightly lit that I needed sun glasses. The round tables were on top of one another it was hard to move. I swear, I thought I was at a business meeting. They couldn’t dim the lots to make it a bit atmospheric????
Then? There was this ice berg salad sitting on paper plates that was already turning with some shredded cheese on it. A few cut up cukes and tomatoes. They then served these teeny weeny cut up spring rolls. Those were ok.
And then the Emcee comes out SCREAMING at the top of her lungs to start this show. My friend and I had no idea what she was talking about. She said grab the paper in front of you, get up and walk around bc you are all suspects! And start asking everyone questions. What?? I mean what is this? And the whole room gets up and is talking about God knows what. No crime has been committed!!!!
Then? She comes back screaming. We can’t understand a word she is saying. Then this girl comes out and pretends she is dead. Two women come out as the detectives. Doing some kind of ridiculous skit that is not funny. Makes no sense and then the dead body gets up! And we hv not gotten our main course and it’s only 7 pm!!! My friend and I looked at each other and said “ let’s blow this pop stand”!!! There was no way I could listen to anymore of this dreck!
I thought we were going to solve a real murder! This was absolutely horrific. But, you...

Beginning: Arrived 10 minutes early, had fun looking around the gorgeous Embassy Suites. Doors opened exactly on time and you can already feel the tension as soon as you come in. Seat assignments are promptly given and it’s a large, pretty room!
The show: It was a very fun romp. Everyone, audience and actors, played well off of each other. The hosts were so kind to everyone and made you feel like friends. The mystery part was difficult for me as I didn’t know what was a joke and what was part of clues. The story was not laid out in a way I quite understood, it was more about jokes and involving every member of the audience, kind of like an improv show rather than a mystery. I have more to say but don’t want to give anything away, but it wasn’t what I expected. Still had fun though! I just took it more seriously than it was given to the audience.
The food: The hors d'oeuvres were light, veggie plate and chips with hummus and ranch. The salad that came next was clean and tasty. For the entree, I chose the vegetarian option, a ravioli with a bright sauce, sliced zucchini, and spinach. It was delicious! I heard no complaints from my table. Finally, I had a cheesecake that was very nice.
Overall: I expected something much different from the online look and the perhaps ironic promise of “no song and dance”. However, when I accepted it was an interactive show and less of a laid out story, I began to have more fun. Good food, good actors, and gracious hosts. A dinner party I would...
