Bit of a back story here, for context. Apologies. Ok, so my husband and I walked in to Big Gun after he had a bad meal at a different restaurant. At said restaurant, a can of hard seltzer was $8.50 (before tax and theor weird three dollar charge for using a credit card), which we discovered when the bill came. We aren't locals and weren't sure if that was a standard rate in the area, but $8.50 for a can of hard seltzer is a lot. We're from NYC area and don't pay close to that. We also live in Tucson. Nowhere in Tucson is a seltzer $8.50. I don't think we've paid that much in LA either, unless you're at a very upscale place, which is not where we ate. Anyway, so we walked in to this Big Gun place. The bartender immediately said hi and offered us menus. I sat down while husband went up to the bar to get us a drink. A hopefully not 8.50 canned drink. He asked if they had hard seltzer and how much, and he then explained to the bartender that the last place after tax and fees was (an excessive) $9.25. The bartender said that seltzers were $6.25. (Reasonable for a touristy town.) Then the husband asked what a Moscow Mule cost, because maybe he wants that. The bartender then said something to the effect of "we don't serve drinks like that". It sounded like he was implying that they only serve liquor straight up, as if he was asking for a "wimpy" drink. Husband didn't reply, and then the bartender said, "If you ask how much a drink costs, you can't afford it." Husband did a double take and said, "Huh? What does that mean?". The bartender replied, "It's a bartenders rule." With that, my husband turned to me and said, "Time to go." So I got up, and we left. My husband has been to bars in every state and in several different countries. He has never been spoken to like that. Does anyone go into a restaurant and order from a menu without prices? Sure. Maybe. But it had better be a Michelin starred restaurant, not some little divey place like a corner bar with burgers and a bartender with an attitude bigger than the palm tree out front. For reference, in the event that a manager or owner cares, happened on April 9,...
