I am the reason why Jade opened at 3pm today instead of 11am. Forgive me. My office was doing a holiday meal gathering thing, and normally we all get together and go out somewhere, but that was out of the question this year due to this pandemic thing going around. I suggested ordering from Jade, thinking there's no way everyone would be on board with Hibachi for a Christmas party, but sure enough, everyone jumped on board. Matthew Carpio was very gracious and allowed us to be his first catering event. We didn't overwhelm his team too much, and took individual orders from everyone involved per his request. I picked up the orders today at 11am, and he had them all individually boxed, labelled for content and who it belonged to, and helped me load the car to get the 16 or so meals to their destination. The food was epically delicious. I ordered the chicken and shrimp hibachi combo with a side of lumpia. If he has lumpia on the menu, get it. If he doesn't have it on the menu, ask for it. It was the best lumpia I've ever had. It came with a red sauce for dipping, which I did regularly. It was great on its own too. He also ensured that we all had enough white sauce to feed and army, because hibachi is not really quite complete without the famous white sauce. The portions on the hibachi were huge, and I'm still full, six hours later. For the price, you get a meal and then some. Charleston desperately needed this on the peninsula, and by golly, I'm going to do all I can to ensure he sticks around for a long time. Get out to see him as soon as you can, and become a repeat offender as you try all of the menu items. Parking is very limited, but it's really just about getting your hands on the food and running with it to a comfortable seat where you can chow down. Door Dash will bring it to you if you can't make it out to see him, but regardless, go on and...
Read moreI think that they have a lot of potential and are still working out some kinks. I ordered over the phone and got the Chicken and Shrimp Hibachi. It was ready on time and came in very environmentally friendly packaging. Extra white sauce was 50 cents but that’s usually standard. When I opened the box, I was a little surprised. Everything had been mixed together in one box and usually hibachi is separated so you can take as much or as little as you please. Inside the box there were about 4 shrimp (with tails? Never seen this before) and a handful of chicken and vegetables. I was so excited because people were raving about the large portions but this is the smallest portion I have seen at any hibachi place. I paid $12 + tip and was expecting a little more. Overall it was good but was a little dry without the white sauce. I am not sure if my portion was held back as I checked their socials the next day and they stated they were running out of things very quickly. I think my favorite part was the white sauce as it brought the meal together with a hint of sweetness. The place itself was cozy and the employees were friendly. Parking can be tricky as it’s right off of the Crosstown in a residential area. I will probably give Jade Hibachi another try when they have gotten more settled but for now I am okay with having to drive off the peninsula...
Read moreI don’t usually write reviews, but I feel like I owe Jade Hibachi one. This place has been my second home all throughout college. Four years’ worth of stress meals, celebration meals, “I can’t cook tonight” meals, and “I just need something that feels like a hug” meals have all happened here.
The food? Always perfect. Always comforting. Somehow exactly what I needed every single time. But it’s more than that. Walking into Jade became this little ritual of comfort for me: the smell of the grill, the way the staff always treats you like you belong there, the consistency that anchored me when everything else in college life felt unpredictable.
Now that I’m a senior, it’s hitting me how much I’m going to miss this place. I’ve made so many memories tied to Jade Hibachi: laughing with friends over hibachi plates piled way too high, dragging myself in after long nights of studying, or picking up takeout to eat alone in my dorm when I needed something steady.
Jade isn’t just a restaurant to me. It’s part of my college story. Thank you for being the quiet, delicious constant in these crazy four years. I’ll miss you more than you know once my time...
