Daps Breakfast & Imbibe — Restaurant in Charleston

This joint is very, very millennial. Take that at face value. Walk in, wait in line, order at the counter, but since this is your first visit, stand there like an A-hole while you peruse the menu that is written less-than-straightforwardly, and hurriedly order something because there's a line behind you. I saw a spot at the bar and skipped the line, but was admonished (jokingly) for my lack of experience here. The concept sucks. SUCKS.

But it's a bright and cheery place, a very clean throwback to a soda fountain kinda joint. I needed a bloody Mary but didn't enjoy it. The homemade mix missed the target. Thank god for vodka. I ordered the chorizo gravy sandwich but found it uninspired, yet still tasty. The menu read avocado, but it was actually more of a "guacamole spread." The eggs were a cafeteria-style-folded-over-neatly-could-have-been-out-of-the-food-service-carton kind of thing. And the English muffin was totally mediocre, but still I ate the whole thing and definitely enjoyed my mimosa while doing so.

I thought the staff was pretty wonderful. Totally friendly and attentive. I rarely ever mention service in my reviews (feed me), but I really thought they were great.

Love Daps and have been going there for years - ordering the SAME drink for years now - iced latte with oak milk and brown sugar cinnamon syrup half sweetened. Not sure if the vibe was just off this morning or what but I was one of the first people there at 8am got halfway through my sentence to order "We'll have two iced lattes with.." before the barista cut me off with a snarky "I'll just give you a minute" and walked away to the expo line. (I guess I didn't speak quickly enough for her?) A couple minutes later she returns, at this point 2 other people are now in line and we're all just standing there waiting.

I did ask about the guest check sketch when I came in that was happening today and that seemed to be the first point of contention. Was told I needed to come back for a chance to win that - unfortunately it's a Friday work day so while I'd love to come back multiple times today that is not an option. And I apologize for not coming in there fully understanding all of the rules/instructions. 😅

Just a weird experience all around and not the way you want to start a Friday at 8am especially from a place that I've been coming to...

Placed an order on the phone for an item I had a friend recommend. The girl took the order, and we went to go pick it up. Open the bag, and my order is completely wrong. I call back, and before apologizing or asking me to come back, the lady got defensive saying they had a menu change. I kid you not, she said “I just assumed you knew about the menu change from a few weeks ago.” Yes, because I have totally been here before and I know all about y’all’s menu changes. No offer for a refund or any attempt at solving the situation. The lady just apologized at the end and then hung up. Very disappointing. Literally had to throw $13 into the trash can since I couldn’t eat it. Plus the automatic 20% tip is absurd, I usually tip 10-15% on mobile orders and 20-25% when I have a waiter/waitress actually handling my meal while I’m sitting down. I tend to rarely leave reviews on places unless I am unsatisfied, and this place left me unsatisfied. After reading some of the other reviews, I see the owner likes to get defensive and reply rudely instead of trying to find a healthy solution. I wouldn’t be surprised if they respond...
