My family and I just left here a few minutes ago this place doesnāt even deserve one star. I have never received such rude and terrible service. This is the first negative review I have written on here for a Charleston establishment and have lived here for over 30 years. Our family was on a walk after church enjoying a gorgeous morning. We spontaneously stopped in after a woman recommended their pastries and were excited to support a small cafe. We hadnāt even stepped foot into the door when our son brushed against the jingle bell door hanger and the owner rushed over to our toddler saying sternly, āItās bad luck!ā My wife and I both felt unwelcome so she took our child outside and the female owner followed her out to remove an open lock on another gate aggressively. It was as if we were not even allowed to look at anything, inside or outside, this establishment. We hadnāt even had a chance to look at a menu to order. When my wife returned to try to order, our child was looking at some candies which were stacked like dominos and touched one, causing another to fall. The woman literally yelled at my wife saying, āJust leave it!ā It was in a TIN can at eye level of children and the funny thing is we actually wanted to spend money here and my wife was going to purchase one for our children to try. The owner aggressively took it from her hand and yelled again for her to just LEAVE IT. We were absolutely shocked and our children were being very well behaved. The place is super tiny and you can barely fit a couple people inside which is fine, but you are in a food service industry and your only job is to provide food to make money. We ended up only purchasing a coffee because we were literally berated by the owners from the moment we arrived. As we were leaving our oldest daughter saw the woman talking through the windows with her hands raised at our two year old son as we were exiting the outside courtyard. The entire experience was honestly surreal and the absolute poorest customer service I have ever received in my life. I canāt even emphasize how terrible the customer service was and I will never spend another penny at this place. As a person who enjoys supporting local businesses and is the first to spread the word on good experiences, I have absolutely nothing good to say about this place. And on a secondary note, I think a local gas station coffee would have more flavor than the one I purchased...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHello this is my first and likely only review I will write on Google. I am very upset at the attitude displayed by the restaurant owner and wanted to share this with you.
Our family was visiting Charleston during a peak weekend while restaurants are still taking covid precautions. Every restaurant had a line, except this one - where every single table outside was empty and not a single customer was patronizing the cafe.
My son in law very clearly asked the permission to bring sandwiches for all of us to eat in your outside tables and one exchange we were to purchase beverages from you. And only after you gave permission, my daughter went to go and picked up the sandwiches. The back and forth took about 15 minutes - while we settled in and no other customers ever came into your shop and into your garden.
I am very shocked at the manner you came and kicked out 2 elderly folks and a child out when the tables were so clearly not being used, when the entire garden was empty and no one patronized your shop. but that would have been much more understandable if we didn't first ask permission. furthermore, why did you feel the need to lie about "your manager giving you a call from upstairs complaining about us bringing outside food" when you are the owner? And then saying he is "too busy to answer the phone" and have a conversation with us.
I don't understand the need to now fabricate additional excuses like your family "violated" social distancing" rules when we were outside the entire time, or being upset that we moved 1 table when you were standing less than 2 ft away watching us through glass for close to 15 minutes while we got settled in.
Operating a business is hard - but I think you will find much more success if you operated with humanity...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBLUF: Do not take photos of interior, just OK ham and cheese croissant, and strikingly mean, hostile staff. Iād recommend you spend your money elsewhere & read the other 1 star reviews.
Me and my friend (visiting from out of town) had just left a bridal appointment at Magnolia Bride and noticed that the bakery, recommended by a friend, was a few steps away. Naturally, we see the cute, cozy interior, are riding a high from wedding dress shopping as lifelong friends, and want to document the weekend together. I took a photo of the interior and the woman immediately started yelling at me to delete any photos, āespecially if [sheās] in them,ā and demanded to watch me delete them from my camera roll and recently deleted folder. To be fair, upon viewing the photos her face was blurry, but still in the photos, so I can respect her right to ask me to delete them and of course Iād do the same for anyone to avoid an invasion of privacy. But the hostility! Never have I been so disparaged by anyone in my life, and definitely never by someone providing āCharleston hospitalityā as she says LOL. I have to laugh because in retrospect the whole thing was ludicrous and I feel pity for her skewed morals and sense of reality. On top of the brash attack, when I asked (3 times!) why she did not allow photos of even the interior, she ignored me. Anyways, long winded way to say I will never be going back there and I recommend you also spend your money somewhere that covets the opportunity to provide TRUE Charleston hospitality! The French just make it so hard on themselves⦠life is too short to...
