Two Star Review: I did not enjoy the food from Hawethorne's 7th Street very much. It smelled delicious (super garlicky) but everything we ate was pretty bland, and the pizza was kind of dreadful: the toppings were fine - not great - but the crust was almost as bad as a frozen pizza. New York style (floppy and gooey with cheese) this pizza was not. We also got the baked ziti and the angel hair with meatballs both of which were pretty over priced I thought. I feel like a good baked ziti should be moistened with sauce and bound with cheese to stick together in a hearty package, but this was more like ziti noodles tossed in a pan with sauce and cheese then plated straight away. I guess something was too watery in the recipe because it was a pretty sloppy mess when it got to our home. The angel hair with meatballs were fine - not amazing but serviceable - but it costs $16 which is a little too much for pasta, sauce, and two meatballs. Maybe $12 is more appropriate, but even then... I don't think we'll go back to Hawthorne's unless it's someone else's idea and they really want it.
Edit : gave Hawthorne's a second chance as it is pretty close to our home and many people seem to enjoy it quite a lot. Dining in this time the meal was a bit better than take out. The meatballs Parmesan was a little boring in its execution but the meatballs themselves were okay (I ate them all, so that's something). The garlic knots were quite good: drowned in garlic butter and kind of crunchy at spots and soft in the middle. We were really happy we ordered them. We also shared the penne ala vodka which was okay. It had A LOT of cream in it which made it pretty gloopy, but it was tasty enough. We added chicken to the pasta and wished we hadn't, not because there was anything wrong with the chicken but because the pasta just didn't need it. It was mediocre but it hit the spot and was tasty enough. Several pizzas were served around us and they looked much better than what I received in my takeout; I'm wondering if the large (18") pizzas which we saw being served around us are just better than their small (9") pizzas which I ordered for takeout. Regardless, I've given Hawthorne's a star back (up to 3 stars) since I think we'll go in again and get the garlic knots and pasta and maybe even a large pizza one day to see if it's better...

Read moreI am visiting my Sister and tried this restaurant before leaving NC. I live in Downtown San Diego in an area called Little Italy (You bet I know my Italian food). I ordered Calamari, Salad, Chicken Wings and Meat Lover Pasta. Unfortunately I didn’t get my pasta (I should mention I ordered through DoorDash), which is a let down cause my sister is moving to Ohio and I don’t think I’m ever coming back to North Carolina. So I decided to order it again, but this time I added the Chicken Parmigiana Pasta since that’s what DoorDash is suggesting. Since it’s getting late and I don’t want to not eat for my last night in Charlotte, I called and told them I’m missing an item on my first attempt. Manager was nice enough to apologize and tried to offer paying for my meal but since I ordered through DoorDash, he can’t really do it. Instead I received an extra entree which was very nice of him. I’m giving the place 5 star for their customers service. As per the pasta, love that it’s all cooked al dente. The meat lover is on point and something that I can compare to the pasta in our place. The Hawthorns Penne is in need of a little more seasoning and the Chicken Parmigiana was okay. Overall it’s a good restaurant and service is outstanding. Shout out to the Manager working tonight 09/26/2021, sorry I forgot your name, but thank you again for your help! Best of...
