Sorry this review might be a little bit picky and long but I'm writing this review after cleaning up the bugs in my bed which has left me in a sour mood.
To start off, when we arrived we were surprised to see that the café was closed which really bummed us out. Part of the allure of this location was having the café right below with readily available food. I was kind of disappointed that we were not notified before making our reservation of the closure. They also had trouble charging a Mastercard, so be careful if that is what you choose to use.
If you decide to stay here be prepared to have a small room where the doors open up right into the bed. They have a back door entrance just for guest access to use that is supposed to be closed/locked at all time, however we found it to be propped open several times (by either guests or staff) which seems unsafe and lets the heat and bugs inside. The rooms may have a mini fridge but they have a cart out in the hallway with a microwave and items for coffee and tea. But what they truly need out there are utensils so guests can eat in their rooms/outside.
The first night I noticed TP that was left behind the bed near the head of the bed. Luckily it did not look to be used, but still a weird location to find it and honestly kind of gross. Made me think that the room was not cleaned that well before our arrival. They have a sign that says they won't change the towels unless they are left on the floor to save the environment, yet that didn't seem to stop them from changing out the towels all the time (not complaining, just seems weird to advertise something you don't do). However, cleaning staff did take a couple of plastic bags we used to transport bathroom products that were not left in trash cans which was quite annoying when packing to head home. The bathroom also needs a better towel rack - towels kept falling off onto the floor which to be honest didn't look that clean but possibly just old.
On our last night we noticed several little bugs on the bed and on the ceiling by the light fixture. As someone who hate bugs this was not a pleasant site to see. We sprayed them with bug spray which seemed to have helped the problem, but left the room smelling bad and dead bugs on our bed/floor. And even after getting rid of the majority of the bugs it was hard sleeping without feeling like bugs were crawling on me. I was quite excited to be leaving the next day.
Positives about this place: it is right next to the lake (several rooms have a view of the water), in the center of downtown Chelan, lots of free parking, good AC during the heat wave, black out curtains, cheapest...
Read moreI must confess that I am hesitant about writing negative reviews, for I know everyone has off days and businesses deserve second chances. This, however, is my first-ever public complaint about a restaurant, and it serves to illustrate just how egregious my recent experience at Riverwalk Cafe was.
From an orange juice order that fell short, both literally and figuratively, to the confusing drip coffee system, my visit to the Riverwalk Cafe left me more than just a little disappointed. I ordered a large orange juice, but a small serving was brought to my table. When I questioned the staff, I was informed they had "run out of large cups". This is something they failed to mention when taking the order and, what's worse, they made no effort to amend the situation beyond a half-hearted apology.
As for the food, the wait was disproportionately long, even by casual dining standards. Despite the restaurant being almost empty with only three other tables occupied, it took an hour for our meal to be served. The long wait times were made even more unbearable by the lack of attention and empathy from the staff.
Breakfast, by most standards, is incomplete without a toast. Yet, at Riverwalk Cafe, not a single breakfast meal includes toast. It's an additional charge - $5 for two slices, which I found to be overpriced, particularly considering the size of the slices which were disappointingly small.
Further compounding the issues was the drip coffee fiasco. I ordered one, and after waiting for 15 minutes, I had to inquire about its whereabouts. Only then was I informed that coffee was self-serve. This information should have been shared upfront. Waiting for something that was never coming felt a bit like a comedy of errors, only it was far from funny at the time.
In a nutshell, my experience at Riverwalk Cafe was fraught with miscommunication, delays, and seemingly calculated up-charges. It was a dining experience I wouldn't wish upon anyone. The service lacked efficiency and basic customer etiquette, while the food and beverage situation left much to be desired.
I am sharing this critique not as a public denouncement, but in the hopes that Riverwalk Cafe takes note and improves upon these points. As it stands, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this establishment until significant improvements are made. Until then, I will be exploring other dining options, and I advise fellow foodies to...
Read moreWe just got home from staying at the River Walk in for 4 days. The only time we ate at the Cafe was the first day when we were waiting to check in and their bagel was very good- but took so long to get; but we had time to kill so it wasn't a huge deal. The hotel- we went in to see if we could check in early and they told us what room we would be in, and looked in the key box and she said "looks like the people haven't checked out, I don't have the keys" (check out is 11, this was arpund 1230) no worries, we knew we were early so we decided to walk across the street to the park and we happened to see the door of our room name, and it was opened so we assumed it was being cleaned. We walked around the park, went to lunch, walked back by the room and it was still open. So we decided to change in our car so we could go play in the lake, we go back by and the door it shut. So we go in to see if we could check in - they didn't even give us that room. Olay whatever, not a huge deal but it would have been nice to be informed if the room we were actually put in, was ready when we first asked... Our room ended up being upstairs which comes with a back set of stairs in case you want to leave and come back after hours. We ended up using these every time because I didn't want to walk through the Cafe in our swimsuits or with our suitcases and stuff, while there is a cafe full of people. The room was really small, the door opens into the bed and was difficult to maneuver around sometimes. It comes with a mini fridge and an AC unit. The ceiling had stains and the toilet, had a brown mark on the floor under the hose (where im assuming watter drips and just sits?) We also never had maids come to our room to clean during those 4 days, which was weird because our mini trash can they put in the bathroom was full the first night. We also had to go downstairs to ask for extras of stuff. They have a microwave in the hallway for everyone on the top floor to share, we never used it. Also don't plan on sleeping in! The walls are so thin- we could hear conversations through the walls of the people next to us and you can hear all the dishes and commotion of the Cafe in the morning. It is in a very convenient location and we walked pretty much everywhere, but it needs to...
