I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this place! The service is great, the staff is friendly and the food is amazing! I'm addicted. I'm in a long distance relationship so we meet in Virginia and this is officially a must stop place every time we come here. If I had the money I would open one in North Carolina. My absolute favorite thing are the Bacon cheese fries as an appetizer. The fries are medium length, thin and SEASONED with some sort of garlic seasoning with real bacon bits and loads of cheese on top. They're incredible. The first time I came, I honestly don't remember what I had but I remember saying we need to come back. Yesterday I was there we ordered the Bacon cheese fries, southwest chicken wrap with broccoli, buffalo chicken wrap with Mac and cheese, 2 MANmosas(mimosas with vodka(yes they serve alcohol too!)), dessert we shared a chocolate peanut butter milkshake and my son who is 2 had a pancake with bacon and eggs. I forgot to mention kids 10 and under eat free every single day (with the purchase of an adult entree of 9.99) ! My southwest chicken wrap was amazing... It comes with Jasmine (my favorite of all the rices) rice, black beans, cheese and seasoned chipotle chicken. I actually ate half and saved the other half for dinner. My boyfriend loved his buffalo chicken wrap and the funny thing is, is that he's originally from this area in Virginia and has never gone there. Today I plan on going and ordering the waffles because with the shape they remind me waffles in Norway and those are my absolute favorite. Thin and crispy waffles as opposed to thick and dry. This is one of those places where I kind of want to try everything on the menu because I know it'll be good but the wrap was so delicious I want to get it again! So maybe today I'll just get the wrap with a waffle on the side lol. Ok I'm done ranting and raving! Have...
Read moreIt seems that in most restaurants today, the orders get mixed up or just wrong, the food is cold when you get it or dried out from being under the warming lights. You see your wait person once for ordering and then never again. We are made to feel like we should order, eat and then get out as they need the table for a bus coming in. I'll never forget a waitress telling my husband and I, "Less reading, more eating!" The place had 2 other people eating so we didn't understand her hurry up attitude, but we never went back.
Well forget about that as the wait staff at Pop's knows how to treat diners.
It was around 9:30 on a Friday morning when I stopped to eat. The staff was very friendly and eager to make me happy. My waitress saw that I was looking down, which I was as I was having a bad day. We spoke about the waffles and I told her that I'd love the strawberry waffle and I know they'd put a light amount of strawberries on if I asked them, but had better not as I could just image my Doctor's face frowning at me (I need to watch my blood sugar). She filled my cup and put in my order. When she got back my plain waffles were cooked beautifully plus she brought me a small bowl of strawberries telling me that I can at least taste a bit of the fruit with the waffle! She also said she wouldn't tell my doctor if I didn't! I LOVE a conspirator! The food was fast, fresh, and delicious. What more could...
Read morePop's Diner has its pros and cons.
The pros include super friendly service, clean restaurant, and varied menu. If you can't find something to eat from their wide selection, that's on you. My partner and I shared a meatzilla omelette (my name, not theirs) filled with bacon, sausage, ham and topped with a slice of cheddar cheese. This was a delicious omelette, and they can be proud of this one! The coffee and English muffin were perfect as well.
The cons? Only a few, but they're important. The freshly grilled home fries were crisp, exactly as ordered; however, were overcooked and were essentially mashed potatoes. My partner ordered a side of corned beef hash, which was again, cooked crispy as requested; however, it too was way overcooked. The consistency and texture were off. Mushy, just not what we usually find in crispy finished hash. That's unfortunate, because we specifically came to this diner because of its various low-carb breakfast offerings.
Our server (Emily?) took great care of us, so service is excellent. If you're looking for pancakes, waffles, etc. you'll probably be ecstatic with the results. But until the kitchen properly cooks crispy potatoes and hash, you'll probably want to steer clear of those choices. An expediter would have caught those issues before those items left the kitchen. Just...
