My sister and I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time, unfortunately, the service we received is why we will never return to this location. I specifically ordered an item w/o whipped cream because of dietary restrictions. My food came with a huge amount of whipped cream all over the top, I didn’t say anything to our server, she seemed very busy(or maybe she was just nonchalant about her service) and it had already taken more than a half hour for our food to arrive after we had ordered. My sister’s order was brought out at least 5 minutes before mine, I had ordered a simple over medium egg, which was brought to the table at least 5 minutes before the other item I had ordered, which was a plain Belgian waffle with fresh cut strawberries and strawberry syrup and no whipped cream. What irked me was our server walked past our table at least twice while I was scraping the whipped cream off of my waffle and made eye contact with me yet never bothered to ask if there might be a problem, so I figured I would just chalk it up as she was just busy and not being intentionally rude. But then at the end of our meal when she brought the bill, the total was $45.05 (including the tax) I handed her $60 in 20 dollar bills and she asked me if I wanted change(not giving a$15 tip on a $41 tab before tax) and I said yes (because I needed change in order to leave her a tip) and when she brought my change back to me, she actually shortchanged me with the amount she gave me, which really made me unhappy. I usually tip 25% but needless to say I did not tip 25% for her services and basically stealing my money, so her tip was adjusted for the amount she did not give me back in change and I only tipped 18%, which is still fair but not as much as I would have tipped prior to the whole bringing me change. Yes, I could have addressed the incorrect order immediately but I didn’t want to make a huge deal about that because technically I could scrape the whipped cream off the top of the waffle, even though it meant eating more carefully to avoid any residual whipped cream and I didn’t have time, nor wanted to wait another 30 minutes for another waffle but the whole shortchanging thing was just unacceptable. We will probably try the other location in our area but I don’t think we will ever return to the Chesterfield,...
Read moreMy daughter wanted to go here for her birthday breakfast. We got there at 9:30am and apparently talked to the owner. We told him we had 15 people and he said it was an hour wait, when we replied ok, he immediately said more like an hour and a half to two hours. He then asked if we still wanted to wait and we said yes. He then informed us that they couldn't seat us together but 2 tables next to each other. Again we said 'that's fine.' At 11am we received a text message stating they had a table ready for 8 people for our party. When we inquired about the other 7 people in our party. We were told that table wasn't ready yet. We inquired if the tables would be together and we were told No. We decided to go inside and speak with someone. We spoke with the hostess who brought over a loud woman who said she was the manager. We inquired about the status of our group of 15. She loudly was telling us that they can't sit 15 people at one time because it would stress out the kitchen and the owner told her that we agreed to be split up and she said she doesn't know why he would lie. I explained that we never agreed to be split up across the restaurant and I wouldn't lie either. We tried to explain we were here for my daughters birthday and would appreciate sitting close together. The manager then said they can seat 8 of our party but unsure when the rest of our party would be seated. After I left to go outside to talk to the rest of our group about this situation, my sister who was still inside said the manager stated to the waiting area, 'people shouldn't come in here when they are hangry'. I felt as though she was grand standing the entire time with her loud, condescending mouth. We decided to leave and not deal with the amateur cooks who are overwhelmed with large orders of pancakes and eggs and very rude management staff. My daughter was very upset and crying when we left but the stress level of management told us it was for the best. The manager also told us that they discourage large groups of people eating there. They should tell people upfront, hang a large sign and put it on their Web page that they discourage large groups of people from eating at their...
Read moreI just returned from having breakfast with my wife and daughter. We have eaten at this OPH several times over the years and have always had a good experience; so this morning's breakfast was very disappointing.
I ordered avocado toast & eggs. When I picked up the 1st quartered piece of "toast", all of the toppings (avocado, tomato & feta cheese) fell off because it was still in fact bread, and not toast. (Imagine a piece of bread put in a toaster for maybe 5 seconds). I explained the situation to our waitress (who was awesome!) and asked her to simply remove the meal from our check (my wife/daughter were already well into finishing their breakfast and I didn't want them to have to wait for my food to get remade then watch me eat alone).
In order to remove a meal from a bill, OPH requires a manager's approval. That's when the problem started. When the manager offered to remake my meal, I very politely thanked her and explained why I wasn't interested in that option. She literally told me "We don't take meals off of a check. Our preference is to remake the meal."
When I reiterated again why I wasn't interested in waiting for a new meal, she just stood there staring at me and repeated that their "preference" was to remake the meal. (We're talking about a $14 breakfast!). The manager's demeanor and the way she handled a very simple issue created a very awkward environment at which point all we wanted to do was to get out of there. My wife and daughter didn't even bother finishing their meals.
I let our waitress know that I did not fault her for the situation nor would her tip reflect her manager's behavior. As I mentioned earlier, the waitress was terrific and I tipped her accordingly.
Overall, the experience was disappointing. My daughter had just gotten into town last night from Colorado and specifically requested the 3 of us have breakfast at OPH as it used to be a favorite and it would be fun to share fond memories. Unfortunately, the manager ruined the experience...
