Four Seasons Dumpling — Restaurant in Chicago

We wanted to try this place for a while now and to be honest it was huge disappointment. We decided to do take out. If their take-out menu holds up then the food is good enough to try again. We would add them to our go-to restruant rotation. Let me start by saying the dumplings were not fresh and tasted like they have been frozen for a while. They were very chewy, thick, and flavorless. The sauce that came with it was straight vinegar, nothing to it. That's all you tasted was vinegar and dough. These were the worst dumplings I have ever had, and this is not the worst part. I think I got food poisoning from these old boots disquised as dumplings. It tore my stomach up causing major stomach cramps and nausea. What is going on with the Chicago food scene? So many bad restaurants with unsanitary conditions. This is my third food poisoning this year so far. From places with fantastic reviews. We just got back from a 7 day stay in Los Angeles, and not once did we have a bad meal. Even the food market had the best oysters we have ever had. You want a delicious egg sandwch, go to LA. You want flavorful tacos that don't need a lathering of sauces to taste good, but straight meat and tortilla, go to LA. You want the best oysters you ever had in your life, go to LA. It’s a bit outside of Chicago’s actual Chinatown, old Chinatown, and it’s less crowded in this area so it’s not as busy, which is nice because it’s quieter. Parking… you can find it on the street and it’s free on the street on Sundays. Most of the dishes are really decently priced and the servings are good enough. The salt and pepper tofu was slightly battered and very good at $12, the vegetable fried rice $10 was not too oily, but had enough vegetables, including broccoli and it wasn’t too salty, the vegetables w garlic sauce was not good because the garlic sauce was a little bit too thick with Cornstarch so it was gelatinous and a bit spicy. Overall, a good deal for your budget. They are known for their dumplings and they are good. We went another day in July 2025 and repeatedly asked for garlic sauce instead of white sauce for mixed vegetables but despite the waitress speaking English perfectly, the food was a big disappointment bc it was white sauce :-( They have so many garlic sauce dishes so I don’t know why they didn’t substitute it. In addition, the vegetables were only cabbage, carrot, about 2-3 pieces of mushrooms, 3 small broccoli pieces, a random piece of tofu cut up in pieces, onion, celery, green pepper, and lots of oil. I would like to say hands down the food was amazing 👏. My family enjoyed it. The fried rice was flavorful. The noodle dish was tasty and the star was our eggplant dish. So I ordered 3 kinds of dumplings. I asked for 2 to be steamed and one to be pan-fried. As you can see in the picture all of our dumplings were pan-fried. There is an up-charge for pan-fried dumplings. I allowed the server to recite the order back before it was placed. She also confirmed the order with another lady before it was placed so I am not sure why our dumpling order still came out wrong. They bring dishes out one at a time so my family was in the middle of eating when the dumplings came. They were tasty but we all would have enjoyed them how we requested them. When I brought it to the waitress attention she just stared and said okay. I got the bill and noticed that they didn't adjust it for the mistake they made. Then I was told the receipt machine was down and that I wouldn't be able to have my copy. I paid the bill which was different from my banking statement. I Left a cash tip.
