I chose to venture to Ground Up Coffee & Bites based off one of my local free s’s recommendations and I was not disappointed! They have seating both along the window and at the coffee bar, it was the perfect temperature inside, they have free WiFi for customers, and I always appreciate a healthy looking coffee shop plant. The cashier let me know that the three different sizes have different amounts of espresso; small has 1.5 shots, medium (16oz) has 2 shots, and large has 3 shots. For the espresso, I recommend ordering it with Half-Light so that you get the light roasted espresso beans. It makes a smooth and balanced hot oat milk latte that you’re sure to enjoy when it’s cold outside, and it was my perfect companion for my chilly walk back. The Half-Light is their Pure Gold Espresso Roast; an inviting front, smooth mouthfeel, with a subtle zesty finish to seal the deal. A broad, balanced, and deep cup with a rich, nut-milk body and riesling acidity. Base tasting notes of black cherry-chocolate mousse are complemented with honey and almond for a blancmange finish. You can also just simply order any espresso-based drink with the light roast and the staff will know what you are looking for. It’s a little extra for oat milk and the light roast, but it’s worth it. The barista Osama was hilarious and made a perfectly balanced oat latte. He truly made me feel welcome and seemed so genuinely grateful that I chose to purchase today’s coffee there; his hospitality makes me want to return again and again. The theme is black and shiny gold, being the colors the walls are painted to the custom retail bags. I enjoyed the motivation printed on the back side of the retail coffee bag displayed, which read: Remember why. Why you filled your tank on the way home. Why you picked your outfit and prepared lunch the night before. Remember why. Your why is an unparalleled standard and how you go about your pursuit should be no different. Rise & Grind's why is how you fuel yours. Truly crafted for purpose. A lively beginning, peppy core, and natural urbane demeanor. Just like you.

I moved to the neighborhood this summer, and after walking around with a friend we decided to try out Ground Up. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They explained what type of milk I should get with different types of coffee, and I could tell that they take pride in what they do. No one before had taken the time to walk me these pairings, so that was incredible. Since that first time, I now have become a regular! I’ve taken multiple of my friends here and no one has been anything less than obsessed. Their coffee is amazing, their bites are great, and I cannot recommend it enough!

In the US I find it’s much more difficult than Europe to find a good cup of coffee. In River North, even tougher. My girlfriend “forced me” to come with her to try Ground Up coffee - well, it was awesome. Local neighborhood charm, great customer service, great coffee. I also got a cheeky ham and cheese hand pie (morning golden hour picture for dramatic effect), do not forego this it’s very good. Note: The spinach hand pie wasn’t made with puff pastry and was not preferred over the ham and cheese, but still good! (I am a puff pastry brat)

An Exquisite Coffee Experience at groundupchi

As a coffee enthusiast always on the lookout for the perfect brew, I'm delighted to share my experience at groundupchi, a cozy and inviting coffee shop that truly stands out from the rest. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was captivated by the warm ambiance, attentive staff, and the heavenly aroma of freshly roasted coffee.

Let's start with the exceptional customer service. The team at groundupchi goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and valued. Whether you're a regular customer or a first-time visitor, they greet you with genuine smiles and a willingness to assist. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about their coffee and pastries, making recommendations with passion and enthusiasm.

Now, let's talk about the main attraction: the coffee. At groundupchi, I found what can only be described as a heavenly cup of joe. Their coffee is freshly brewed to perfection, offering a wide variety of flavors and intensities to suit any preference. From rich and bold espresso-based drinks to smooth and nuanced pour-overs, each sip tells a story of quality and craftsmanship. The baristas take pride in their creations, serving up artful latte designs that are almost too beautiful to disturb.

Pairing their exceptional coffee with the superior pastries offered at groundupchi is like discovering a match made in heaven. The display case showcases an enticing array of perfectly baked croissants, muffins, scones, and cakes. It's clear that each pastry is made with the utmost care and attention to detail. Mouthwatering flavors, irresistibly flaky textures, and the perfect balance of sweetness make for a truly delightful experience with every bite.

In addition to the outstanding coffee and pastries, groundupchi provides a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. Elegant yet unpretentious, this coffee shop boasts cozy seating arrangements, soft lighting, and calming background music. It's an ideal place to unwind, catch up with friends, or simply enjoy a peaceful moment of solitude.

Overall, groundupchi has won my heart with their fantastic customer service, remarkable coffee, and superior pastries. Whether you're a coffee connoisseur or simply seeking a delightful spot to relax and indulge, this coffee shop is a gem that deserves your attention. My only regret is not...

This place is the real deal y’all. I’ve been coming here more than a few years now, and here’s what brings me back weekly: 1) the tastiest coffee and pastries. Seriously. I’m Greek and this is the first place I go every time I come back from Greece to make it feel like I’m still on vacay. 2) the space: always immaculate, great music, laid out perfectly so that people who want to come in and out quickly can do that, and people who want to stay and work, chat or read can, too. 3) the people. Master class in customer service and employee engagement - I’ve been coming for years and seen the same team this whole time, that’s a huge testament to the owner’s leadership. Everyone is so kind and helpful. GroundUp is the best place for a literal and figurative pick-me-up, shout out to everybody but especially to Mo and Oscar who were the first to make me feel like a...
