After reading other reviews I am amazed and can only assume most people have never had the privilege of eating good sushi. While I had the sushi delivered, it should not detract from the basics that were not present in this meal. A basic component Rice was tasteless and seems to have not been treated with rice vinegar and sugar, just boiled. The quality of the fish was so so but one should not expect a lot at this price. The Tempura by the time it got to me was cold and lifeless. It should have a crispy texture rather than just a hard exterior. The selection of vegetables was so limited and believe it only consisted of two. Unfortunately, what passes as sushi today is a far cry from the past when it was considered an art as well as a skill. The sushi here reminds me of the all you can eat places we used to ridicule and contains no real quality other than not making you ill. The popularity of sushi today has obscured the old world quality standards that undoubtedly still exist in Japan. This meal was analogous to eating Mexican food at Taco Bell. ...
Read moreWow- what an amazing experience here. All started from my 14th floor hotel room in the city. Looking for a small modest sushi bar. Boy was I happy making the walk. Quaint, homey, clean, with a sense of high quality. I sat at the bar and mentioned I was hungry. What do you know - heard the chef say “something something soup”. BAM, soup was delivered within 30 seconds. I started by ordering the sushi i always get, simple rolls, they were perfectly executed. I get to talking with the chef (Amraa) about fish and my low level understanding of fish - salmon, tuna haha. Couple minutes later he hands me a beautiful mackerel nigiri. Mackerel is fishy that is true but prepared this way I was mind blown. Took me out of my comfort zone and I appreciates that. In the end I felt at home chatting and trying new dishes. It’s a great feeling when you’re traveling alone I highly recommend this place for knowledgeable sushi chef with good quality at an amazing price in Chicago. Thanks to Amraa and the staff for a memorable...
Read moreHit up Kai Sushi in Lakeview the other night and had a great experience. Dropped about $50 for dinner, and it was worth every penny. Started with the edamame—simple, but perfectly salted and a solid way to kick things off. For rolls, went with the Citrus Salmon Roll; that hint of citrus with the fresh salmon was a game-changer. Also tried the Volcano Roll, which had just the right amount of spice to keep things interesting. The fish was fresh, portions were generous, and the staff was super attentive without being overbearing. The vibe inside is cozy, making it a great spot for a casual date night or just catching up with friends. Definitely adding this to my list of go-to sushi spots...
