Back home to celebrate Lunar New Year 🥂 🧧with the best Cantonese food I've had in Chicago. Coming from Hong Kong, I've always craved food that reminds me of home. What's the best way to do that ? By visiting @kenkee_restaurant in Chinatown!

This restaurant has served the community for over 20 years and now recently transferred ownership to Kenny Yang from @stringsramen. That's where the bright and fun decor of the 2-story building comes in. Pictures of hk , bright neon lights, and graffiti all reminded me of kowloon
We ordered the: 🍜Cart noodles 車仔麵 - you pick your own toppings from the menu and type of noodle. I of course went with their house made noodle, braised beef, radish, bbq pork, enoki mushroom, bak choi, offal (beef innards). You can also choose across various broths like Laksa , wonton or braised beef. The braised beef was perfect and noodles were nice and chewy 🍗Sweet soy sauce(“Swiss”) chicken wings 瑞士雞翼: so soft, sweet and tasty, just like my mom makes them! 🦐Salted Egg Yolk Head-on Prawns 金沙蝦: I've been CRAVING this . And this is one of those dishes that require a huge wok and crazy skills to make. So so happy that they had head-on shrimp here to order. Each prawn was filled with roe and just the perfect amount of crisp, egg yolk + salty & sweet & umami taste. You can see, I was able to eat the tail directly because it was made so crispily! 🥩Crispy Garlic Short ribs 避風塘牛仔骨: this technique is typically eaten with crab while they only had soft shell crab here and other meats to choose from like tofu, smelt, drumstick, shrimp, fish filllet, I went with short ribs because I was craving it. It's super garlicy and crispy, something thats almost a staple in my meals at Chinese restaurants now. So good! 🐔Mango chicken 芒果雞球 :NEW on their menu! They also have other new items like lychee chicken, jalapeno pork belly, Shanghai see string bean dishes and my favorite steamed chicken soups! This dish was delicious. Not too sweet with big bites of chicken fried well. Paired with rice perfectly 🥤Hong Kong Milk Tea 港式奶茶: no explanation...
Read moreDISGUSTING! My girlfriend and I came to Chinatown specifically to eat at CHI TOWN CAFE, which is an awesome place to eat. UNFORTUNATELY, it was closed due to some kitchen upgrade and we were so hungry we decided to try a new Chinese restaurant.
We randomly chose this restaurant.
The tea was good, our appetizers were pretty good (CRAB RANGOON) although the service was bad, our server pretty much ignored us the whole time, which, i just shrugged off thinking it was a Chinese tradition, to kinda just back off the customer and only attend to him, when i made eye contact and signal him.
not a big deal, im not a huge fan of annoying servers, chatting you up for a tip anyway.
we shared the orange chicken entree, as well as the mixed (chicken, pork) fried rice.
the orange chicken, wasnt THAT great, but did have an authentic taste too it.
the rice was good, i liked the pieces of pork in it, so i found myself, digging through the rice to pick out all the pork meat pieces.
after i finally made eye contact with the waiter, i was able to waive him down and pay.
WE HAD LEFTOVERS, so when we asked for a box, he took to the plates to the back and boxed and bagged it for us.
when my girlfriend was eating the leftover rice, she found a HUGE THICK BLACK CURLY HAIR, the length of my index finger! it looked like an armpit hair!
i know for a FACT, that , that hair was NOT in the rice before i asked for a few boxes.
Im 100% sure, he put that hair on purpose!, either me and or my gf would of noticed that long huge hair if it was there on the plate the whole time, we pretty much, inspected the whole plate of rice, as we were eating it.
THIS PLACE IS DIRTY ! DO...
Read moreWe were so disappointed with this restaurant. This was our second time dining here. We came to eat around 930pm on Sunday night 9/8/24. From the time we we sit down we felt like we were being ignored. I am a African American male and my girlfriend is a white Caucasian. I ordered the BBQ pork belly rice bowl and my girlfriend ordered the sweet and sour chicken . We really enjoyed the food. Our female server took a long time to take our order. She took other customers that arrived after us 1st while we watched. It was hard for us to get her attention to get her to come to the table. It was like she was afraid of me. I had to wave to the manager to bring me soy sauce and chilli oil. When we were ready to pay , my girlfriend had to ask for the check since my server was ignoring me. When the server final brought my check she dropped it on the table and throw up her hands and walked away quickly. I was trying to hand my credit card to the server but she walked away too quickly. I walked to the kitchen to pay my bill. I feel bad for my girlfriend because she shouldn't have to be discriminate against for dinning with a Blackman. At the end of the day we will protest with our wallets which means we will spend our money at other restaurant in Chinatown. We will not return to this restaurant. I also will not recommend this restaurant to my friends or family. I left a cash tip and wrote " poor service " on the credit ...
