Del Taco — Restaurant in Chico

Dissatisfied as I was I almost didn't write a review. But then I was talking to my aunt and cousin who also had multiple bad experiences at this particular location, then this morning I wake up to a Google prompt asking me how my visit was. So apparently the universe is telling me this needs to be done haha

I got off work late last night pulling into the drive-thru about 8:45 not really wanting to go home and cook. I was really excited about my chili cheese fries and I also ordered two chipotle chicken rollers off the value menu. I planned to eat my chili cheese fries on the way home and save the rollers for a snack later because I'm often awake until 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning and would possibly be hungry again.

So then I dig everything out to find there's no fork and it's already difficult enough to eat messy chili cheese fries while you're driving definitely not going to tackle that endeavor and get chili cheese all over my steering wheel. So now those will sit on the back burner while I drive the 20 or so minutes home getting cold.

So I divert my attention to the chipotle chicken rollers because they are easy enough to eat while I'm driving and I'm starving cuz I hadn't eaten since breakfast it was a busy day. My first bite and I get nothing but a crunchy tortilla top no topping there was barely any topping in this thing but crunchy tortilla is a clear indicator that it had been sitting around for a while and then they tossed it in the microwave to reheat it and then by time I got it in my mouth it had cooled off enough to dry out because that's what happens when you microwave a tortilla. My second bite where I actually got to some toppings wasn't much better the tortilla was a little bit softer because it was moistureized by the the sauce however, the chicken was room temperature at best so they didn't even microwave it for a long enough to convince me that it was fresh.

I get home where I can find the grab a fork and enjoy the star of the evening to find that the cheese on top of everything wasn't even melted which means the chili at the very least wasn't warm when they put it on top of the fries decided to take a bite anyways and the fries were cold in the middle which means they probably weren't even cooked all the way through to begin with.

I had heard multiple negative things about this location in the past it's only been in town for a few years and had avoided it since I hadn't heard anything good. My own experience was no better than what I had already heard and I doubt that I'll...

Del Taco has its small advantages: affordable, occasionally good options. Disadvantages: a franchise that fails its work force, and their customers. Still they survive the course of the years, so the law of averages must still be in their favor. We ordered $24+ of food: classic burritos (2 for $7) beef and combo varieties, both tasted salted, ground beef barely present, and low quality. You buy 2 for $7, or you buy an Epic (newer name) which is not much better in size and quality. Bought the $5 deal twice, one with bean and cheese red sauce, which ironically taste better than their most expensive counterparts, quesadilla, fried unusually good, and a small drink. The second 3 crunchy beef tacos, plenty of cheese, fries, drink. Last I visited Del Taco was years ago, wanted to revisit my experience, and found them a little short of the mark again this instance. Rose was very nice at the front. 2 Stars. 5-2-2023 As much as I seemed to complain, we discovered our favorite item at Del Taco: Crunchy Chicken Taco. Their beef no, chicken yes. Besides the affordability we have concluded this choice is best. Here’s the joke: each time, three times so far, we order these we pay for the regular version called the Del Taco, and usually pay on the app. Usually 9, but to our surprise they always give us the Snack size, which is approximately half the size. No lie, and always through the drive thru. Don’t want to antagonize the connection, as everyone knows you get on their wrong side, most eating places, is not a smart move. So to solve this problem we simply have decided to only get the Snack size, and perhaps we start getting the larger sibling, who am I kidding? The problem with the midgets is one gets less chicken, but more stupid is to repeatedly pay for the larger and keep getting their mini version. Their grilled Chicken crunchy...

I am vegan and this was my first time trying Del Taco! I was blown away by the food quality + affordable costs + friendly staff.

I saw an employee working professionally and grinding away inside- he may have been a manager because he had his hair slicked back- my first impression before entering the drive thru was, "Wow this guy is on top of it in there and looks very professional."

I was pleased to see the abundance of vegan options here, for such an affordable cost!

You can get 3 beyond meat w/ guac tacos and a side of their fries for the same price of getting 3 orders of criss-cutt fries at Carl's Jr- which those cross cut fries are a vegan's guilty pleasure!

After trying Del Taco's fries I was in awe of the perfect combination of soft and crispy- with just the right amount of salt. If you want regular style fries, you'll be in for a pleasant surprise with Del Taco's uniquely satisfying take on fast-food french fries!

When I got to the service window, the guy had such a good vibe! I could tell that he genuinely enjoyed his job, and that perhaps the work environment there is more outgoing then some other fast food places. It looks like an interesting job to have, and I was ultimately impressed all- around.

I am looking forward to coming back to try the vegan Beyond...
