We usually go to the newer Hector's in Eastlake but we were close by and were in the mood for good seafood. First glance you will notice that this place is situated in an older small strip mall on Broadway. The restaurant is not very well maintained it is older and shows it. We were not deterred. We stayed and ordered a couple of Mexican beers and got a tray of fresh chips and salsa. The chips were made fresh and tasted great. The salsa was also fresh. Our meal arrived hot and delicious I had the Seafood Grilled plate which in hindsight was enough for two people to eat. My wife who is so much smarter than me ordered a Shrimp Cocktail and one Shrimp taco. The food was delicious and very nicely presented. The waitress was a little slow but nice and friendly. The price was unbelievably low. My beer was under $5 how cool is that and get this they have a Happy Hour with beer for less than $2!! Overall we had a nice dinner at a great price. Considering how bad this pandemic has affected most restaurant's bottom line. We can overlook the walls crying for a nice paint job. We need to support small businesses now...
Read moreAlthough most of their dishes are really good, there are some that have to be reviewed or removed from the menu. It is my personal opinion. Service was excellent in 2 different occasions that we visited. The servers were different each time. Also, couple of other times the service was not as good. In few other visits the servers were lacking of interest of checking back the table. We were out of waters, chips and salsa and in one visit there was not even one server around to ask for help. I have no idea if the cause was the time of or not but, if someone has been assigned to your table, they have to be checking it somehow often in case something is needed. Also, napkins are something that has to be available at the table at all times and they just failed I definitely will recommend the seafood cocktails and tostada's. Love the campachana cocktails and the...
Read moreFirst visit to Hector’s. Looking for a new place since Sabor de La Baja closed nearby so came to give this place a shot. I always order the same three things when going to new place for mariscos: 1. Fish taco, Seafood cocktail and tostada. The staff were nice, attentive. The food…taco was good, tortilla was on point. Coctel was good as well. Tostada was also good. The one thing missing that would take this up another star: salsa selection. The only available house salsas were pico de gallo for chips and an “aguachile style citrus salsa”. There were a few bottles of the usual suspects: tapatio, huichol and guacamaya. There was no salsa macha, no salsa habanera, no salsa chipotle. As a mariscos aficionado, these types of salsas are essential to the experience of a good marisco. That would be my only...
