I recently had the pleasure of dining at Black Bear Diner in Citrus Heights, CA, and it was an absolute delight! From the scrumptious veggie omelet with country potatoes to the exceptional service provided by Sandy, my experience was nothing short of amazing.

Let's start with the food. As a vegetarian, finding a satisfying breakfast option can sometimes be a challenge, but Black Bear Diner exceeded my expectations. The veggie omelet I ordered was packed with fresh vegetables and the perfect amount of gooey cheese. The accompanying country potatoes were cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Every bite was bursting with flavor, leaving me completely satisfied.

What truly elevated my dining experience was the exceptional service provided by Sandy. From the moment I walked in, she greeted me with a warm smile and made me feel right at home. Her attentiveness and genuine care for her customers were evident throughout my meal. Sandy was not only prompt in taking my order, but she also made sure to check on me regularly to ensure everything was to my liking. Her friendly and professional demeanor added an extra touch of warmth to my visit.

In addition to the fantastic food and service, I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable prices at Black Bear Diner. Often, quality and affordability don't go hand in hand, but this establishment managed to strike the perfect balance. The portion sizes were generous, and I left the diner feeling both satisfied and happy with the value I received for my money.

The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and inviting, creating a welcoming atmosphere for diners of all ages. The rustic décor and friendly staff made me feel like I was enjoying a hearty meal at a cabin retreat, providing a unique and enjoyable dining experience.

Overall, my visit to Black Bear Diner in Citrus Heights, CA, was truly outstanding. The delicious veggie omelet with country potatoes, coupled with Sandy's exceptional service, left a lasting impression. The reasonable prices and charming ambiance further contributed to the overall excellence of my experience. I highly recommend Black Bear Diner to anyone in search of a memorable dining experience in Citrus Heights. I'm already looking forward to...

I have always liked BBD since it came here, even before in other towns & we’ve eaten there frequently. However tonight was one of the worst restaurant experiences we’ve had in many years. I understand with the pandemic I can’t expect decent service sometimes, but this was the worst. I ordered a small tri-tip dinner with mashed potatoes, my husband ordered a taco salad. We waited for a long time for our orders. When they finally came, my order was wrong & I had to send it back to be corrected. My husbands taco salad was a hot mess. The ground beef was over cooked& sloppily plated. Ranch dressing accompanied the salad, which I thought was odd, but ok. He tried it. We had to ask for utensils in order to eat. My husband asked for taco sauce for the salad as it was dry, he ended up with a couple of little containers of salsa. He could not finish the meal & left most of it there. I did take my tri-tip home. When the waiter finally refilled my iced tea he did not give me additional ice for my glass. The tea was warm. We also had to ask for our check. We did mention to the cashier our disappointment with our meals, she did kindly offered a discount which we declined as we had “eaten the steak”, but we won’t be going back to this location for awhile, hopefully they will get things under better control by that time. We left as soon as possible. I am very sorry for this review, but hopefully management will take this under review & correct...

Black Bear Diner – Citrus Heights: A Disappointing Visit from a Loyal Fan

I’ve always loved Black Bear Diner. My first visit was at the Redding location while traveling from the Bay Area for work—it was an amazing experience with great food, friendly service, and a warm atmosphere. I even took my son to the Elk Grove location the very next day, and we both became big fans of the brand.

But today, I visited the Citrus Heights location, and I left feeling very disappointed.

I ordered a veggie omelet with hashbrowns. The hashbrowns weren’t fresh, so I politely asked the server if they could make a fresh batch. She was kind and passed the request along—but the cook gave me a very disrespectful look and moved his lips in a way that seemed like he was mocking or saying something rude. It felt very uncomfortable. You can check the cameras—it was unprofessional and unnecessary.

There was no welcoming energy, no smiles—none of the service I’ve experienced at other locations. And the food? The omelet was plain and underwhelming, just basic eggs with a few veggies. Nothing special.

I’m not just complaining—I’m sharing this because I care. Black Bear has always felt like a place I could trust for good food and respectful service. I hope management will take this seriously and make sure this location reflects the same high standards that made me fall in love with the brand in the first place.

A customer who...

Our family loves BBD! My son is determined to visit each and every location! That said, the food is usually consistent. Good food, big portions, and acceptable prices. This location was unfortunately a little lacking though. My Prime Rib which is available after 4pm on Fridays (and Saturday I think) was over cooked. This is understandable when you get there late at night and it's been slow roasting all day but I was there at 6pm. so it shouldn't have been so "well" done. Still should have been some pink in it. Then my "Hot Fudge Brownie Sunday" was not right either. The brownie was hard (I mean stale kind of hard) and not warm. Therefore the ice cream didn't even begin to melt and wasn't going to melt from hot fudge either because it wasn't hot or even warm. These are two things I order on the regular from various locations when visiting on a Friday. They've been great at all other locations. Our server had a great smile but he didn't seem to care that the food was lacking and gave what sounded like a scripted response and no ownership or solutions to try to fix it. So, we still LOVE BBD but this location could use some retraining in the bare necessities of operations IMO.

3 stars for the food being good and hospitality of the manager. But what a nightmare! Not sure if its always like this as it's my first time at this location. It wasnt busy, we waited 20 mins to be seated, waited another 20 mins to order, waited another 35 minutes for our food to arrive after ordering. There was 5 of us so not a huge party and nothing crazy was ordered. The parking lot wasnt full and neither was the restaurant inside, it was half empty. Thankfully 25 mins after ordering the waitress gave us 3 corn breads and offered salad to the 3 of us that didnt have salad already coming with our meals, due to the chefs saying our food would take another 10 mins, the manager had helped her and they said only 2 chefs were working, which again not sure if this location is always like this, but at least the food was good! Minus the loaded mac n cheese!! That was not mac n cheese it was a pasta with barely any cheese not saucey at all, dry penne noodles instead of the usual macaroni ones. Chicken and waffles was very good as was the giant burger!
