I'm not a local and was in need of food. I was looking for sushi spots and saw this place pop up. I thought to myself "surely the 5 stars can't be true or maybe they bought them." I'm glad to say I WAS WRONG. Believe the hype. This place is fantastic.
I'd never had Afghan cuisine before, so I came in and bought a ton of stuff. Let's go over it.
Naan - the pieces i got with my meal were AWESOME. I can't say I'm a Naan expert, but this stuff was extremely good and i loved dipping it in my soup. I even went back up and bought a large take home of Naan ($12)
Mantu Dumplings - i'm not big on (i think it's) sour cream, but the dumplings were tasty and light. They made for a good appetizer. I think they could have used a little more flavor, but that's me just being picky.
Spicy Fries - the spicy ketchup was really good and i even added it to the burger. Fries are a very tough thing. I've had many bad fries, and seldom great fries. These are your "typical" shoestring fries, but they were cooked nice and crispy while still soft in the middle making for great texture. The seasoning on then was spicy and absolutely wonderful. Kind of reminded me of a better version of Red Robin's seasoning on their addicting fries.
Burger (Double) - wow. So these aren't big patties by any means, but they're thick enough, cooked on more of a medium well side, and spiced excellently. I would gladly choose this over a fast food burger any day, and it would even rival some dedicated burger places. Adding the spicy ketchup was a great move on my part too. Only real negative i would say, and again I'm being picky, is it did have kind of that sodium after taste you get from putting too much seasoning on things, so that could be dialed back a small bit. Excellent burger either way.
Soup - the broth was excellent. Had a very clean, vegetable/minestrone taste to it. It contained short noodles, veggies, red beans, chickpeas, and more. It was great for dipping the naan and felt hearty and clean while eating it, though i wasn't crazy about it, but it's definitely still a good soup.
Between the food and the hospitality and kindness of the staff, I highly suggest giving this place a try. It won't be like a fancy date choice, but it's certainly going to hit the spot when you're looking for good food or a nice place to grab a quick bite.

Read moreWe visited this restaurant on a whim after a nice long walk at Long Dock Park. Oh my goodness was that a good idea. The food was amazing. I knew it was going to be good, but it was even more delicious than I expected.
I had a chicken rice bowl with mild spice, because I am a wimp raised in the Midwest, and it was not the least bit hot. My friend went for the hot and said it was milder than Indian vindaloo. Everything was seasoned to perfection and the flavors and textures married so well together. We also got the potato triangles (I apologize that I am forgetting the names of everything) for an appetizer which was a generous serving - there were eight triangles so the four of us split it easily and they were filling. Could have used more yogurt sauce with that many, because I hogged the whole little cup to myself. My husband had the double burger, which he enjoyed, and the masala fries, which I snitched and were very good. I had the rose mint lemonade which was also very good with balanced flavors - the rose and mint were subtle and the drink was neither too sweet nor too sour. The flavor was more reminiscent of rose petal jam than rosewater, which can be overpowering sometimes. We had the milk pudding and baklava for dessert. The milk pudding was divine, but if you don't like cardamom it is not for you. The only dish I thought could use improvement was the baklava. It was good, but I've had better. It was a little heavier than I like, with less filling, although the serving was generous enough for two people. Everything else I had was perfect as it was.
The atmosphere I gave four stars only because it was a little bare bones for eating in, and the food was served in disposable dishes with plastic cutlery. I thought it was food worthy of a white tablecloth restaurant setting rather than a more takeout setting, and real cutlery is always nice. But everything was very clean and well-lit, including the bathroom.
The server/cashier was also very warm and welcoming and was patient with our questions and explaining things. He even let my friend try a sample of the cardamom spiced green tea, which was apparently excellent.
This restaurant will satisfy carnivores and vegans alike. I cannot recommend it strongly enough. We will...
Read moreI just came across this LOVELY gem of a place while visiting a friend in the Beacon area, and I can't say enough great things about the experience. The quality of the food was top-notch. I initially came for lunch and had the burger with Masala fries and the Taco-Bab, then decided to come back for dinner because I totally had a hard time deciding which meal to order (the reviews were so stellar)! For dinner, I had the main bowl with everything on it (beef, eggplant, and beans). SOOOO GOOD! drools
Every dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. It's clear that they put a lot of care into their menu. Being part Middle Eastern, I know when certain foods have an authentic element to them, and the bowl most definitely satisfied my tastebuds and met my expectations.
The customer service was incredible. Justin and Komel were so kind from the moment we walked in. We were greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. The staff was attentive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal.
The owners are some of the kindest people I've ever met in the restaurant industry. They came over to our table to check on us and made us feel like part of the family. Cheers to warm vibes and full bellies!
Looking forward to...
