I’m editing my stars because I remembered another thing, which is that after I told the guy I couldn’t have sugar, he argued with me that agave’s not sugar and I could have it. I’m sorry, what?? Then he starts telling the other barista how agave’s different or some such thing, but right there where I could hear him talking about it. Who does this guy think he is? I used to absolutely love this place, but they don't serve any hot coffees larger than 12oz. I used to get an extra cup of hot water just to extend the life of my latte. But today was the final straw. I wanted something that had a little bit of heavy cream. I didn't want a 12oz latte with heavy cream bc that's too much cream. So I ordered a quad in a 12oz cup and asked if I could add my own cream. The owner/manager (o/m) said yes, and told the barista not to steam the cream. I get the cup and the barista has a hot pitcher with steamed cream. He said for me to add as much as I wanted, which was a small amount, which was a waste. No biggie, the guy must not have heard. But why don't they have thermoses with milk, cream, 1/2 and 1/2 etc like other coffee places?? I then asked the barista to add some hot water to it. The owner or manager saw this and got super annoyed, shaking his head and making hand gestures and saying something to the barista. I was so aggravated, but decided to wait and get some work done until I could calmly ask the guy what the deal was. Finally it was quiet and I went to the o/m and said super nicely, "You didn't like my drink order.’ He said they don't add water to the quads because that's not how they make it. He goes on and on and says the water would make it bitter, and admitted he didn't like my order bc he 'wants to make sure my coffee is perfect.' I just wanted at least a 12oz cup with espresso and hot water!! What a load of s..t. So I said, still kindly, 'You need to be a little more flexible, so people can get what they want,' and he says, now aggravated, 'I'm as flexible as I can be!' What a joke. Let me order coffee the way I want. Who is he to tell me how to drink my coffee?? For a while, some of the guys would allow me to order the 8oz cup but put it in a 12oz and add water, but the o/m caught on and got pissed bc other people apparently wanted to do the same, so that stopped. Dude, if so many people want that, why aren’t you giving them what they want? Every other coffee shop I've ever been to either has an Americano in a 12, 16 and/or 20oz cup. You add water to the espresso shots. What is he talking about??? I'm tired of having to jump through hoops to get a 16oz coffee (ordering an extra 8oz of hot water so I can mix it myself in my car and make a mess, really???). Why is getting what I want a battle? The other people who work there are great, but this guy just ruins it. I'm going somewhere else from now on. Too bad. They have a nice menu, but this is just untenable. Btw, if you're the o/m and you decide to allow guests to get espresso in a 12 or16 oz cup, let me know. Maybe I'll come back then....

We sampled an iced version of the 2 day brewed roast black and it blows all other Main Street coffee shops out of the water. Next was a hot Aloha latte topped with a foam that will make you rethink what coffee should taste like. These were paired with an everything croissant sourced from a Brooklyn bakery. Normally I'm skeptical of outsourced food at a coffee shop but the croissant was fresh, flakey, buttery, and soft. The everything seasoning may have been a bit too salty or over the top and there could've been a bit more cream cheese inside to balance things out, but overall it was a decent enough breakfast option.
The staff was very friendly and VERY knowledgeable. The dedication to the brewing craft is evident and pays off wonderfully. The interior of the shop is ornate, clean, well decorated, and very well maintained. This is a great place to come for a quick coffee pick up or to hang out with some friends in a relaxing environment. The bathroom was similarly well maintained and clean but also had nice personal touches that most businesses in general don't even consider.
Overall, this is a coffee shop that executes every tiny detail to the letter from the menu, to the guest experience, and back again to foam that you should absolutely, 100% order on your latte.
Bravo to the owner and team at Beacon Coffee Co. & Mercantile. We will most certainly be...
Read moreMy husband and I took a trip up to Beacon for the day this weekend and our first stop was at Beacon Coffee Co. I loved the cozy and casual atmosphere. Lots of young families with their dogs; it was super cute. Everyone (both staff and other customers) was super friendly, too, which is always a huge plus for me. It definitely seems like a popular stop for both locals and visitors alike. They have a full menu with their own custom drinks but I opted for my usual (hot) vanilla latte (rang up as a "vanigliatto") with oat milk and foam, along with a croissant. I cannot emphasize enough that it was the best vanilla latte I've ever had in my life. Like it was so good, I'm seriously considering calling them today and asking for detailed step-by-step instructions on how they made it so that I can try to recreate it at home today. It was so perfectly creamy and not overly sweet. I didn't want it to end. My croissant was also divinely flaky and buttery. My husband ordered the Hudson Hickory Latte (iced) from their Summer Fresh drink menu and a kouign-amann pastry. The featured caramelized brown butter de leche and essence of oak barrel and hickory smoke; he really enjoyed both his drink and pastry, which is a croissant-esque Breton pastry with a caramelized outer crust. I totally loved Beacon Coffee Co. and can't wait to come back hopefully soon!...
