Regretting that I recommended coming to Yankee Clipper Diner. I came a couple years ago with friends. However, I made a huge mistake to come here again. The French toast was cold, the pancakes were tasteless, the dressing on the grilled chicken goat cheese salad was artificial sweet and sour sauce, which was awful, and the Reuben sandwich with corn beef was tasteless. We passed several diners to come here. The other diners we passed appeared to have crowds. Our first mistake was not noting red flags. Things were very different than a couple years ago. When we walked in only two booths had customers after 2:30 pm which was very different than before. Next, we came very hungry. We waited for a server for 25 minutes, but no one came to our booth. We quietly discussed whether we should go somewhere else, because they were not busy, but we were being ignored. Finally, someone from our table of 4 asked the cashier whether we could be served. Immediately, she went on a search. Ironically, a lady we watched for 15 minutes standing at the counter in front of us doing nothing came over and took our order (as we were more than ready). 3 minutes later brought all our food and the coffee one of us ordered. We were so hungry, yet, we each asked, "how is your meal?" "As hungry as I am, I thought this would taste like something, mine is cold, mine is ok, but I've had much better, this is disappointing, my salad dressing tastes artificial and ruins the salad, and I can't believe we passed up better places for this." From there no more service. Oh yeah I forgot she tossed some napkins at the table once. We asked for the check. Our non-server actually has the audacity to suggest giving a tip at the register or leave a cash tip on the table if we like. Yes, we did leave her a tip even though we did not feel she deserved a tip. Best to go to a place with a crowd. People go where the food and service is good. Yankee Clipper Diner is not the place to go an hour out...
Read moreAte lunch here today with my friends and while the experience was mostly fantastic, there was one major downside that we couldn’t overlook. Let’s start with the positives: the food was incredible. The service was just as impressive. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and very sweet. Unfortunately, the experience was ruined by an interaction with the owner. While I understand the pressure of running a restaurant, his demeanor was unnecessarily rude and dismissive when we had a polite question about a sandwich we had ordered. My friends and I have never sent back food in our lives. The rest of the food was amazing except for this one sandwich we ordered. 2 of my friends got it and it was absolutely drenched in salt. We tried to continue eating it but it was genuinely inedible. When our server checked on us, we very politely asked for new sandwiches and apologized the inconvenience. The owner intervened and raised his voice at both us and the server, causing other customers to stare at us. It was jarring, especially considering how friendly and professional the rest of the staff was. The owner said it wasn't possible because they “don’t use salt!” So how were both of our sandwiches so incredibly salty we couldn’t even eat them? Would I return? Honestly, yes—for the food and service alone. But I do hope the owner reconsiders how he engages with guests, because that kind of energy doesn’t match the otherwise exceptional vibe of...
Read moreYankee Clipper diner is a MUST GO! My husband is from the Hudson Valley so we come back this way a couple times a year, and me being from California, I love going to a proper New York diner. In our years of visiting New York, I’ve been to a wide array of diners with a wide array of quality of food, service, cleanliness, etc. Yankee clipper is a five out of five in all areas. The service is incredible, there is always an owner of this family owned establishment working and they’re there to greet you with a smile and give you recommendations and chat with you. The food is incredible! Amazing comfort food, and also some healthy options. They are also very happy to customize things to make sure that it is exactly the dish that you want. It is very clean, which I think is important for all of us. The floors, bathrooms, etc. are sparkling. Beacon is a super fun town and I love that although it’s getting more popular, this place brings a lot of family charm to the main street. My husband always misses a good bacon, egg and cheese and he had his favorite ever bacon egg and cheese here! 10/10 would recommend...
